Woman Convinced Child Ghost Steals Her Jewelry

One Blackpool landlady is convinced her jewelery is being stolen by a child ghost intent on "having a laugh".

Tracy Mappley, landlady of The Boars Head, Preston Old Road, called in paranormal investigators when she was kept awake by banging noises and her jewelery continually went missing.

Feeling sure there was a "presence" in the pub she asked a group of mediums, Third Eye Paranormal Investigators, to visit to find out what was going on.

During a night vigil Mrs Mappley described how they "communicated" with a number of spirits and tables moved on their own.

Mrs Mappley, 42, added: "The strangest thing was in the spirit cupboard. We put a bin bag down with some talcum powder on it.

"The cupboard is alarmed and I locked it up and kept the keys with me the whole night. When we returned there were two initials in the talc – M and A. It was really weird."

The spirits of former regulars to the pub, including a local farmer called George who died in 1838, are also said to still visit their favourite local.

Mrs Mappley said: "I have jewelery that goes missing. I put pairs of earrings down and one of them goes missing.

"The mediums said there was a child ghost in the building – a little boy called Sean who died in 1855 who's taking the jewelery. He just likes playing games with me."

Mrs Mappley has also described feeling sick and noticing dramatic changes in temperature in the building.

She said: "We hear lots of noise – bumps and clinking and tapping on the bar. One night I had gone to bed and heard banging.

Investigated

"I checked every room upstairs but there was nothing going on. I checked the pub as I thought I might have locked someone in!

"But when we investigated there was no-one there.

"I finally went back to bed and shouted 'Whatever you're doing, stop it now!'

"And it stopped. I definitely believe now, it doesn't bother me though.

"Now I know what the noises are and why things are going missing. I suppose it's just having a bit of a laugh."

Landlords Claim Lancashire Pub Haunted

Shivers of fear have chilled the spines of landlords at a Lytham pub.

Ghosts of a mother and son, who are thought to have made a suicide pact and drowned themselves in the early 1900s, are said to haunt the Ship and Royal, on Clifton Street.

So much so, Lee Jane, 30, and girlfriend Gemma Rogers, 27, are the first licensees in five years to dare live in the building.

The couple report hearing bath water running upstairs in a derelict area of the building which is boarded up and has no plumbing.

Mr Jane, who has run the pub for six months, said: "That area is part of the former Royal Hotel and there are 20 derelict rooms upstairs which don't have any electricity or plumbing.

"Nobody goes up there, it's all boarded up for health and safety reasons.

"But we hear water running, like from a tap. A mother and son who lived here are thought to have made a suicide pact and drowned themselves."

Mr Jane describes other recent spooky moments which have made staff at his pub scurry home in fear, including an internal telephone system which rings by itself.

He said: "There were four of us in the pub one night and we'd just finished cleaning up when the internal phone rang.

"There was no-one there when we answered and there was no-one in the building to ring the phone in the first place.

The office was all locked up so no-one could get to it."

In 1983 The Gazette reported another sighting of a ghost at the pub.

A tall dark figure, thought to be the departed soul of the late Squire John Clifton who died in Tenerife in 1928, was seen on the second floor.

It was not the first time.

In 1978, The Gazette reported: "Ghosts do have their acceptable faces. The case of interfering Charlie is the toast of the Ship and Royal.

"Charlie, thought to be the ghost of squire John Talbot Clifton, likes revisiting his favourite hostelry, orders meat from suppliers and tampers with the inn's files for what reason no one knows."

But Mr Jane says the ghosts won't frighten him and his partner away.

He said: "It's a bit spooky, but I keep an open mind. It doesn't stop me sleeping!"

UFO / OVNI Photos - Mexico - Easter Weekend 2008

According to a report furnished by journalist Francisco Rangel, UFO activity was reported over the Mexican state of Guerrero.

These cases involve images of "chance" UFOs that appeared in the "El Matutino de Guerrero" weekly and the "La Cronica de Chilpancingo" daily papers.

Photograph 1 was taken by young Irving Francisco Guerrero on a journey to the town of San Miguel el Progress, Municipality of Malinatlepec, dated March 19, 2008, approximately 14:00 hrs. He used a 5 mpix Kodak EasyShare.

Photograph 2 was taken by the same author. It is interesting to note what appears to be a disk that leaves a wake as it moves.

Photograph 3 was taken on March 21st by Lic. Javier Francisco Reyes, editor of the abovementioned publications, when taking photos of the premises where a Chedraui supermarket is to be built in Tlapa. An object that the journalist was unable to identify can be seen in the background, against the mountains. Lic. Reyes employed a Samsung S630 camera.

Italian Haunted House Buyers File Suit

After enduring howls in the night and creaking staircases for the past three years, an Italian family is preparing to sue the previous owners of their house for not telling them it was haunted.

Gaetano Bastianelli, 57, and his wife Stefania paid €120,000 (£94,000) for the modern home in the Umbrian town of Spoleto in 2005 - encouraged by the fact that all the furniture and fittings were left by the owners, right down to the coffee cups. "We considered it the deal of the century," said Mr Bastianelli.

The couple claim they were unaware that the house in Santo Chiodo road had been built close to the disused Pozzi Ginori cemetery, or that strange goings-on at the address during the 1970s had necessitated an exorcism - and prompted a visit from Perugia University's paranormal research team.

"The ghosts started their haunting on the first night," said Mr Bastianelli, a former long-distance lorry driver. "I woke suddenly at around one or two in the morning. There was water seeping from under the bathroom door.

"The hot water tap was pouring out boiling water and the room was full of steam. My wife was stunned, because she had turned off everything before going to bed."

He claimed that by next morning, malevolent spirits had left "luminous green mould all over the walls".

After that things got worse. He said the sound of chains rattling had alarmed his 10-year-old daughter, and claimed that the lawnmower and his wife's car had spontaneously combusted.

Now Mr Bastianelli has engaged a lawyer, Antonio Francesconi, to sue the previous owners for failing to inform him that the house was haunted.

"We have a good case," said Mr Francesconi. "Under article 1490 of Italian law, you have to tell buyers if there is anything wrong. I think that the previous owners will settle out of court."

A local historian, Sergio Grifoni, confirmed that an exorcism had been performed on a girl in the house in 1977.

"The local papers at the time said a girl had been possessed by the devil and had been taken to the bishop. Nothing helped, until Pope John Paul II prayed for her."

The episode was confirmed by Fr Gabriel Amorth, the Vatican's senior exorcist, who said: "Pope Wojtyla carried out an exorcism on this girl who was rolling around on the floor of her house."

He could not confirm whether the house was the same one in Santo Chiodo road.

The Hull House Ghost Photo

My husband & I were visiting Chicago in June '07 and we decide to do a ghost tour. The tour was fun & interesting, lasted about 3 hours. The Hull House Museum was the last stop, as soon as we pulled up I knew I needed a photo of the staircase. I forgot my camera at the hotel so I had to use my cell phone (which has no flash). I waited till everyone had moved on to explore other parts of the grounds & such. I got my phone out & said SAY CHEESE and when I got home & blew up the pic on my pc this is what I got. - Erin

Comcast is Watching!

Conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with this story. In fairness, so will just about everybody else. We hope.

Comcast is experimenting with camera technology. More specifically, it trying out technology that turns cable boxes into camera-equipped devices that would utilize body-form-recognition as a means to provide custom-tailored service, and, of course, custom tailored advertising. The boxes would be able to tell who is in the room based on the shape of their body, thus tailoring programming to fit their specific desires and security settings (when children are involved). Facial recognition is not in the works as of yet.

We should be clear: This is all in the experimental phase. There has been no consumer testing and Gerard Kunkel, Comcast's senior VP of user experience, stresses that any final decision is predicated on the boxes providing more to the viewer than just precision advertising.

Custom Tailored. Security. Efficient. Your New Best Friend. Now You Can Leave the Kids At Home With Super Cable Nanny! Those are hypothetical buzz-words and -phrases Comcast will most likely lay on in hearty layers if and when it begins to roll out this new technology.

Honestly, what is your immediate gut reaction when you hear that a massive corporation might want to place cameras that actually track your movements in your own home? We won't say what we think. Trust your gut reaction and don't let any amount of mediocre advertising sway you.

Ohio Man Arrested For Sex With A Picnic Table

A man in central Ohio is accused of having sex with his picnic table.

The investigation began when a tipster gave police three DVDs showing Arthur Price having sexual intercourse with a metal round table on his deck.

The incidents occurred between January and March 2008.

Police say the DVDs show Price involved in a sex act in his bedroom. He walks out to his deck, tilts the table on its side and has sex with it.

Police say Price lives near an elementary school.

Price admitted that he had sex with the picnic table when police questioned him.

He confirmed to police the incidents caught on the DVDs and said he had also had sex with the table inside the home.

Price faces four counts of public indecency. He is free on a $20,000 bond.

Manson Family Ranch Requires More Testing Before Excavations

Authorities will continue to test soil at a California ranch that was once home to cult leader Charles Manson, looking for more evidence of buried bodies before any excavations begin, the county sheriff announced Friday.

Earlier this month, search crews found indications that human remains might lie within a few yards of Barker Ranch, the onetime hideout of the "Manson family."

The sites were first identified by trained dogs. Testing equipment from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory also indicated the presence of remains, Sgt. Paul Dostie of the Mammoth Lakes, California, Police Department told CNN.

But Inyo County Sheriff Bill Lutze said Friday that after analyzing information from the sites, he decided further testing was necessary.

"Myers Ranch is private property, Barker Ranch is national park property," Lutze said in a written statement. "Both are compelling reasons to be as cautious as possible and use every reasonable testing method available before disturbing the ground with excavation."

Myers Ranch, adjoining Barker Ranch, was owned by a relative of a Manson family member and also served as a hideout.

Methods of testing the soil "with minimal intrusion" are available, the sheriff's office said, and will be able to determine "with a high degree of reliability" whether bodies are buried there.

"Forensic teams will focus on a very few spots in which search dogs recently indicated possible findings of dead bodies with some consistency," the sheriff's statement said. "The various dogs gave inconsistent findings at many spots on the ranch property and all dogs were not controlled in the same manner accepted by recognized dog search organizations."

The testing will be closed to the news media, Lutze said, to protect the integrity of the process and the property rights of the owner. Testing results will be released, however, probably in late April, the statement said.

After Sgt. Dostie's dog and another dog, from NecroSearch, a nonprofit organization that specializes in finding clandestine graves, indicated the possible presence of human remains, testing equipment from Tennessee's Oak Ridge laboratory indicated two likely grave sites and a third possible grave site, Dostie told CNN.

Manson and four other "family" members were convicted of murder and other charges in connection with a two-night spree in August 1969 that included the slaying of actress Sharon Tate. The slayings -- and Manson and his family members -- transfixed the nation.

Cougar Roaming North Chicago?

Police fanned out around the area of 16th and Lewis late Friday night on the lookout for a cougar. Police searched the area on foot and patrol cars and sharpshooters took position aboard a fire truck bucket after reports that a large animal had been spotted near the Park District Youth Center.

Police were on the scene from about 9:35 pm to 10:30 pm but called off the search soon afterward when they could not find anything.

Reports of a cougar sighting initially came in Friday morning.

"This thing was huge. At first I actually thought it was deer," said North Chicago resident Cheryl Coleman.

Coleman was in her car around 8:30 a.m. at the southeast corner of Argonne Drive and Seymour Avenue when she looked across the street and spotted what appeared to be a very large cat.

The tan-colored, 30-inch tall animal was slowly walking between two houses in the 1400 block of Argonne. Its long, thick tail dangling behind.

"I was sitting there stunned," Coleman said. "This looked like a mountain lion or a cougar. My first reaction was to put my window up."

Coleman said she saw the animal walk north across Argonne and into another person's yard. She then called police.

Coleman said she didn't think anyone would believe her, but she wasn't alone. North Chicago police received three calls from people claiming to see a large tan cat, said Lt. Curtis Brame.

Officers scoured the area, but found only footprints. At least five of those prints were found in snow and mud near the home of Helen Sasavage. The longtime North Chicago resident said she was inside when the big cat was apparently making its rounds. But when she went to take out the trash, she noticed the paw prints, which measured more than 4 inches across.

"The (paw prints) were larger than a cat or dog," Sasavage said. "I don't know where that animal came from. I think he was lost."

If he was lost, he certainly wasn't easy to find. North Chicago Animal Warden Ted McClelland circled the neighborhood all morning looking for a large cat, but saw nothing.

McClelland said he found more than dozen paw prints from 20th Street north to 16th Street, but no sign of the cat. The prints were consistent with a large cat, most likely a cougar or mountain lion, he said.

"We can't yet say for sure what it was," said McClelland, who had a tranquilizer gun with him as he drove around.

If the cougar was still in the area Friday afternoon, it was likely hiding in one of the many tall evergreen trees in the area, or was sunning on someone's rooftop, McClelland said.

Anyone who sees the animal is asked to immediately call 9-1-1 and should not try to capture it.

"It's a safety issue," McClelland said. "We can't have (a cougar) running around here at night."

This isn't the first time a cougar sighting has been reported in Lake County. In December 2004, a Waukegan police officer claimed to have seen a cougar on the Amstutz Expressway, and a few months earlier, numerous people in western Lake County reported seeing a cougar. Those reports were never substantiated.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, cougars in Illinois are rare. In a press release issued last month, the agency said only two cougars have been found in Illinois since 1862. Both were found dead in Mercer County (2004) and Randolph County (2000).

'Ghost Hunters' Investigate Historic Ohio Mansion

For years, the old Prospect Place mansion has been offering tours to curious visitors.

People want to see for themselves if the old 29-room mansion, built in 1856, is haunted like the stories that circulate around town claim.

Anyone with a television will have the chance to see what goes on inside Prospect Place when an episode of the SciFi Channel's "Ghost Hunters" airs next week.

In late January, a crew from the show spent about a week filming in the mansion. It will be featured Wednesday's episode, which is titled "Ghostly Bounty Hunter." The owner of Prospect Place, George Adams, said he is not allowed to release details until the show airs.

"Ghost Hunters" is a one-hour, weekly program that follows two paranormal researchers, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, as they explore places throughout the country that are suspected of being haunted. Hawes and Wilson are the leaders of The Atlantic Paranormal Society.

Today the mansion also houses The G.W. Adams Educational Center, a nonprofit organization established in 2005. Adams is a descendant of George Willison Adams, the builder of Prospect Place.

Prospect Place served as one of the stations for the Underground Railroad and was a place of safety for slaves who escaped from the South. Slaves would find refuge in the basement of the mansion and would be given supplies.

Community events and paranormal and ghost investigations are offered at the mansion.

Angola Hosts 'Miss Landmine Survivor' Pageant

Landmine victims are to take part in a beauty contest in Angola, where tens of thousands have been injured by mines.

The pageant has been organised by Angola's de-mining commission, and aims to restore the confidence of victims and raise awareness of their plight.

Millions of mines were planted in Angola during a 27-year civil war that ended in 2002.

The "Miss Landmine Survivor" contest will be held on 2 April in a luxury hotel in the Angolan capital, Luanda.

Eighteen women will take part, one from every province in the country.

All of the contestants have been maimed by landmines.

The co-ordinator of Angola's de-mining commission, Madalena Neto, says the aim of the competition is to restore self-esteem in women injured in mine explosions, and to show that there is beauty in all people.

She says she wants the contestants to become ambassadors for victims of landmines.

Tens of thousands of Angolans have lost limbs or suffered other injuries in mine explosions.

And they continue to do so, even though the war ended six years ago.

It is rare to visit an Angolan town or village without seeing people struggling to cook, care for children or otherwise get on with their lives whilst struggling with a stick or, if they are lucky, a pair of crutches or an artificial limb.

The UN says that, despite an extensive de-mining programme, millions of landmines remain littered across Angola - and this means great stretches of the country are still out of bounds, too dangerous to farm or to travel through.

Perhaps the "Miss Landmine Survivor" contest will remind the rich and powerful in central Luanda that there is still a lot of work to be done, both in terms of ridding the country of landmines and of improving the lives of their victims.

Paranormal Investigation OKed for Old Iowa Asylum

County officials have given their informal OK for ghost hunters to check out a one-time insane asylum to see if any spirits are lurking about.

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors took the initial action on the request from the Johnson County Historical Society, which gives tours of the 153-year-old building.

Brandon Cochran, museum operations assistant for the historical society, said there have never been reports of ghosts or bizarre happenings at the building and that bringing in a paranormal team is "kind of taking the pre-emptive approach.

He wants an Iowa-based paranormal investigative team to come in for one night. Cochran said he hopes they don't find any paranormal activity and the investigation can put to rest any speculation.

A four-person Carroll Area Paranormal Team will use thermal imaging equipment and voice recording systems, Cochran said.

A date for an investigation wasn't set and an agreement will have to be drafted releasing the county of any liability before the supervisors formally approve the request, Cochran said.

The remaining wing was built in 1855 and housed mentally ill patients who were deemed insane. It was a self-sufficient 160-acre site with residents growing corn, potatoes, wheat, hay and tobacco.

The building is now called Chatham Oaks, and houses people with physical and mental disabilities. Chatham Oaks officials said there wouldn't be a problem with the paranormal team coming in as long as it didn't disturb residents, said county facilities director Dave Kempf

Rare Black Melanistic Coyote Caught in Georgia

A trapper captured a rare black coyote Wednesday in a DeKalb County subdivision.

Residents along Overlook Dr. called in Tim Smith of Catch It Wild when pets in the neighborhood disappeared.

Lisa and Alan Mackey found the remains of their cat Cricket in the woods behind their home. It was obvious the pet had become a meal for the coyote and its mate.

"The mom, she's pregnant; getting ready to have her babies," explained Smith. "I get so many calls in the spring for that one reason; they gotta feed their family."

Smith said the coyote had set up a den right behind the Mackey's house.

"We didn't know how close it was to our house and we discovered that the den is directly behind our house," said a worried Lisa Mackey.

Smith set up another trap, hoping to catch the female.

Because of coyotes' ability to adapt to their surroundings they are thriving in Georgia, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Increased numbers of coyote sightings in metro Atlanta have created increased concerns for homeowners. However, DNR experts say there is little need for fear. According to information on the DNR web site coyotes are timid and shy animals by nature that tend to steer clear of any potential danger and thus pose little threat to humans. Contrary to popular belief, these animals do not hunt in packs but rather are primarily solitary hunters.

Vike Report: Bigfoot Encounter

About Bigfoot, It is my second encounter, in 1986 a large brownish red creature ran across the road in front of me and (name removed) when he was in the first grade. Apparently he knew where we lived because at night I began to feel I was being watched. About 3 or 4 weeks later, the dogs in the kennel in the Corral barked all night, finally at 3:00am I went out to let the dogs out, everyone in the house was sleeping. I went out, opened the gate, took about 10 steps toward the kennel and he (Bigfoot) screamed (yelled) at me. It was the scariest sound I've ever heard, I stopped and said OH Sh--. then I ran to the pen and the dogs passed me running into the house. The next morning I went out to the corral and he had broken a cedar post off that had been set in concrete for 2 years, so I think he left his calling card.

At sundown here, you can go out and hear them hollering to each other. One will yell in one direction and another one will answer him, then another one will answer that one from another direction. So, there here. I have feelings for them, and I've learned a lot. I believe this particular one lives underground. I know where. He has to be underground because he lives near people, and hunters are everywhere during hunting season, so I feel he goes underground at day break and comes out at sunset. He gets very frustrated and beats tin on the barn and it sounds like King Kong. My son has had different experiences with Bigfoot also. As for me, I think BF is curious about me, and I think he watched me through the windows when we first moved into this house. This is getting a little long, I'll write you more later. Think about what you want to do.

Thank you to the witness for their report. Also if all goes OK, I will be interviewing this witness for the Vike Report Radio Show. I know this interview will be something to hear. Making arrangements for this now.

Brian Vike, Director HBCC UFO Research.

Pastafarians' Statue Displayed at Courthouse

What you can and cannot display on public property is a debate that sometimes ends in court.

In one East Tennessee city, there's usually no fight at all.

On the lawn of the century-old Cumberland County Courthouse, you see an Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers memorial, chainsaw-carved bears, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

"It's made out of materials we bought at Lowe's and local hardware stores, just piping and insulation and spray paint," explained David Safdie. He and his sister built the sculpture and installed it on the lawn last week.

Cumberland County granted them a permit to display it as members of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. They call themselves pastafarians.

"Our message is freedom of speech and freedom of religion," said Safdie. "We just wanted to have chance to represent our message."

Al and Patricia Westerfield also express their views on the lawn. They put up a Statue of Liberty as a response to another statue erected here in 2006.

"About two years ago, all the sudden a statue of Moses magically appeared right in front of the courthouse," said Al Westerfield. "We asked permission to put up a Statue of Liberty. Each month we change the statement on it: a quote from the presidents or even from Jesus about the separation of church and state."

The lawn has become a free speech zone with diverse views.

A carved statue of Jesus graces the courthouse lawn as well.

"It creates controversy, and that's a good thing," said Mary Leedy, a Crossville resident who sell hot dogs nearby.

Leedy welcomes all the lawn decorations, and sees the Jesus statue as a blessing.

"Everybody is moved differently by it, I think," she said. "And the people who are looking for offense will find it, is my philosophy."

The philosophy of Flying Spaghetti Monster supporters?

"We hope people see it and get a good laugh," said Safdie.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster will remain on the courthouse lawn until May 1st.

Confirmed: Cougar Killed in Kansas

<-Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks game warden Tracy Galvin displays the pelt of a mountain lion that was killed in Barber County last November. Galvin has been investigating the rumor that a mountain lion had been killed in Kansas for the past several weeks. This is probably the first confirmed wild mountain lion in Kansas in over 100 years. Charges are pending against the individual who killed the lion.

The long-standing debate about the presence of wild mountain lions in Kansas appears to be over.

For the first time in more than 100 years, state wildlife officials think they have confirmation of such an animal.

Tracy Galvin, a state Department of Wildlife and Parks game warden, took possession Monday of a mountain lion pelt shot west of Medicine Lodge in November.

A Barber County resident said he shot the catwhile cutting wood on his property.

Galvin said the man saw the mountain lion nearby, walked to his truck, grabbed a rifle and shot it.

Charges are pending since it's illegal to shoot a mountain lion in Kansas "unless it's a threat to life or property," Galvin said. Continued...

Do You Believe Pikachu Is Real?

Are there real Pokemon characters roaming the earth? Well, there is a forum for 'Real Pokemon Believers' at Pokeclipse

Now, the real question is are these 'believers' much different than those that believe in UFOs, extraterrestrials and Bigfoot?

I especially enjoyed the 'Pika and Pikachu - A Conspiracy?' thread.

The following is a sample posting:

I always thought you all were kinda weird, and I really wasn't too much of a Pokemon fan.

Well one day, I was reading a book when I heard something. I jumped out of my recliner and ran to the window. There, in my dirt garden (not much of a gardener...) was a strange looking orange-ish, red-ish, white-ish bird. It was dead after crashing into my window.

With a little remorse, I scooped it up and dumped him in my dumpster. Never thought of him again.

Well, about two years later, I was browsing the internet and accidentally tapped the scroll wheel, opening up a new tab. I clicked on it and froze.

I was staring at the bird that had rammed into my window a few years back! Under it was the name: Pidgey.

I did some research and found out it was a Pokemon! Pretty crazy. I believe now....

Parachute, Possibly D.B.Cooper's, Found in Clark County, Washington

A parachute that could belong to famous hijacker D.B. Cooper has been found and is being analyzed by the FBI in Seattle.

The Cooper case has been surrounded by mystery since 1971, when he jumped from a Northwest Orient Airlines Boeing 727 with a bag of money containing $200,000 ransom.

The parachute, which the FBI said is the same type that was used by Cooper, was found between the Clark County towns of Ariel and Amboy, near the center of the original jump zone, according to KOIN News 6.

The parachute was unearthed in a field that was being plowed by the property owner and was found by the man’s children while they were playing. The children pulled the cloth until the chute’s shroud lines appeared and their father recognized it as a parachute.

The man notified the FBI in Seattle. Part of the chute, which is white and conical shaped, remains buried in the field.

Seattle Agent Larry Carr said he will analyze the parachute and look for a label, which could match it to a reserve chute left behind by Cooper on the plane.

Law Enforcement Officers Compile Drawings of Stephenville UFO

By ANGELIA JOINER - Stephenville Lights Reporter

Note: The following composite and narrative came to this reporter through Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan.

An area law enforcement officer, not wishing to be identified at this time, writes the account in his own words. The sighting date was January 8, 2008, and the time was between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. according to Constable Gaitan.

No other information is available at this time.

"This is what I and several other officers saw. I did not see the back, only the frontal view. The two large lights were bright like landing lights, but solid light blue in color similar to LED. The wing tip lights remained steady. The top and bottom tower lights strobed sporadically. It had three towers on the bottom and two on top. It was bigger than a B1 Bomber. It lumbered around town then headed off towards Mineral Wells. It did not leave fast like some are saying. It left slowly. I saw it make a turn. It turned slightly at a 30 degree angle and stayed there for a moment with no movement. It then went to 90 degrees, added a large light in the middle, and moved off at 27 mph and accelerating. I had to go to a call at this time. When I came back I could see it leaving in the distance. It was about 500 ft off the ground. The colors above are the actual color. This drawing is a compilation of all the law enforcement that saw the craft."

Pedophile Claims He Was Molested By Bigfoot

A man who claims that he was molested by Bigfoot as a child was ordered to serve 20 years in prison yesterday for his own molestation-related activities.

Gene R. Morrill, 57, of New Ipswich, N.H., had previously pleaded guilty in Stafford Circuit Court to 20 charges stemming from his efforts to solicit 13-year-old boys over the Internet.

Defense attorney Terrence Patton cited Morrill's mental health issues in seeking leniency from Judge J. Howe Brown.

Morrill told an investigator preparing his pre-sentence report about being sexually assaulted by the legendary Bigfoot, a North American folklore character said to be between 7 and 10 feet tall, and covered in dark brown or dark reddish hair. Patton said Morrill really believes the assaulted happened.

However, Morrill was determined to be mentally competent to stand trial. The judge also couldn't have been impressed with Morrill's criminal record, which includes a rape conviction involving a child in New Hampshire.

According to the evidence presented by prosecutor Jim Peterson, Morrill was one of several out-of-state online predators identified last year by Detectives Darryl Wells and John Chapman.

The detectives made Internet contact with Morrill and others while pretending to be young boys.

Chapman introduced another suspected predator to Wells, his "13-year-old friend," and both detectives received pictures and movies of boys having sex with other children and adults.

The real boys were between 5 and 12 years old. The other predator brought Morrill into the conversations and Peterson presented pages of online discussions in which Morrill expresses his desire for sex acts with young boys.

Morrill was convicted of five counts of attempting to take indecent liberties with a child, five counts of using electronic equipment to solicit a juvenile and 10 counts of reproducing child pornography.

Morrill is still facing similar charges in Prince William County.

Claim: Yowie Photographed By Aussie Man

YOWIE hunter Paul Compton has long believed a giant animal lives in the Glen Innes district - and he claims he finally has photos to prove it.

Two days before Christmas, Mr Compton set up a wild view trail camera in an area north west of Glen Innes he has been watching for some time. A week later he returned, finding the camera - triggered by movement - had shot 921 images, including two showing a blurred black figure he claims to be the elusive animal.

“There had been a lot of activity there - rocks moved, broken tree limbs - I’d left a couple of cooked chops in a plastic bag in a tree about eight foot of the ground as bait, and when I returned it had been ripped apart,” he said.

Mr Compton estimates the shadowy figure to be about 35m from the camera, and estimates it’s height to be about (4 foot six inches) - “I took my son out and got him to stand in the same place and he’s about the same height”.

He says he believes the animal is a descendant of the giant ancient ape Gigantapithicus, which was in Asia tens of thousands of years ago.

“I’ve got hair at home that’s been identified by Dr Henner Fahrenbach from Oregon Regional Primate Research Centre in America who believes it to be a high primate and identical to the type of hair belonging to the (American) Big Foot or Sasquatch.”

Mr Compton, who has plaster casts of footprints, has become somewhat of an authority on big animals, and in October will be a guest speaker at the three day Mid American Big Foot Research Foundation conference in Oklahoma to talk about big animals in Australia.

Meanwhile, two commercial television current affairs programs are looking at the recently snapped photos.

“There’s never been a picture before, this could really put Glen Innes on the map,” he said

The Mysterious Kawasan Falls

Ghosts and mystical stories are nothing new at one of Cebu's popular tourist destinations — the Kawasan falls in Badian town, Cebu.

According to locals, it is not every year that a person dies at the falls but every two years.

The deaths were a warning, according to a quack doctor or locally known as “mananambal,” whose services was sought on the death of a tourist several years ago.

It takes sometime for the body of a person, who drowns at the falls, to surface, which fuels the stories.

Oliver Harapat, 29, who works for the Kawasan Multi-Purpose Cooperative, said there is a story that the spirits of the forest locally known as “engkanto” ask for 60 human souls in exchange for disturbing their once peaceful place which is now congested with cottages put up by several resorts in the three-tier falls.

He said no explanation was given on why the spirits needed 60 souls.

Although Harapat and a handful of other workers laughed when asked if they believed in the tale, fear is still etched on their faces. Some local workers chose to remain silent all throughout the interview.

“Those are just tales but some say that black figures appear in the pictures of tourists. Sometimes, they say photographs show white ladies,” Harapat said in Cebuano.

On Easter Sunday, the family of Nelson Tiro who drowned in the second falls on Maundy Thursday, brought a mananambal to ask for the spirits to free the soul of Tiro, said the worker.

Harapat was the one who dived and recovered the body of Tiro about 30 minutes after he drowned.

Emma Saldua, an operator of Willy's Place, the pioneering resort at the falls, said that she believed in “engkantos” but not in the tale that the spirits asked for human souls.

“They are really there. We must make sure not to disturb them so they will not harm us,” Saldua said in Cebuano.

When an Iranian visitor drowned at the falls a few years back, she said the spirits' help was sought before the Iranian’s body was found. The divers exhausted themselves in searching for his body for almost two hours but to no avail. When they asked the spirits, the Iranian's body surfaced instantly, the operator said.

Last New Year's Eve, Saldua said she was the only one left at the resort. There were no guests and she was practically alone at the first falls.

“Nakadungog man ko ug murag daghan kaayo mga tao nga saba ug sadya kaayo (I heard a lot of people making noise and seemingly having a party).”

Thinking these were arriving guests, Saldua went to open the doors and windows of the resort's convenience store but found no one around.

Out of fear, she hurriedly locked up again and played loud music on her radio.

The Ghosts Are Real On British Horror Film Set

The cast of a new Brit horror movie being filmed on the Liverpool set of soap Brookside today claimed the infamous close is haunted.

Stars of gorefest movie Salvage said they have been terrified by paranormal activity on the cul-de-sac fictional soap madman Trevor Jordache was buried.

Now the actors have dubbed the set “Spookside”.

Director Lawrence Gough’s film sees residents trapped in “The Close” by military snipers hunting a suspected terrorist.

The plot turns into a bloodfest as something more sinister starts to wreak murderous havoc.

Actor Shaun Dooley, 33, who plays main character Kieran, said: “There’s been some strange things going on and the cast are convinced this street is haunted.

“We’ve dubbed it Spookside.

“At certain times of the day – the lights flicker out and photographs have gone missing from the set.

“And we haven’t been able to shoot the final scene in the woods because every time we approach the set dark clouds appear and gale force winds blow up.

“It’s as if the ghosts of Brookside Close don’t want us to be filming here and it’s freaking people out.”

No less than 72 characters were killed off during the Liverpool soap’s 21-year history.

Director Laurence Gough, 37, believes the close is the perfect set for a horror movie.

He said: “When we heard Brookside Close was available I thought it was an absolute must.

“The whole film is about turning a respectable street upside down and this was the ideal place for us. It’s a great set for a horror movie.”

The £250,000 film due out in autumn has been promised a glitzy premiere in Liverpool as part of the Capital of Culture programme.

New Team Starts Search For Steve Fossett

While friends and family gathered last week to remember missing aviator Steve Fossett, Carson City resident Mike Larson and a couple of his colleagues quietly were conducting their own private search in remote areas of Nevada.

Fossett was declared dead Feb. 15, five months after his single-engine airplane disappeared over Northern Nevada.

The millionaire adventurer and aviator has been missing since taking off on Labor Day from the Hilton Ranch airstrip in southern Lyon County.

Fossett, 63, a world-record-setting pilot, reportedly took off in a small plane owned by Barron Hilton, who owns the Flying M Ranch and conference center.

Larson, a 30-veteran of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation who is skilled in surveying, mapping, planning and civil engineering, started collecting technical data in December. He and two others have since been out in the desert on their ATVs with GPS units in hand, searching possible crash sites.

"We have a good process and method for our approach," Larson said. "If this is a legitimate wreck ... there's a good possibility to find them. We're going to continue searching until we've exhausted all leads."

Larson continues to sift through information provided by a Mechanical Turk site set up by Fossett's friends, who enlisted public help to search computer images of Northern Nevada. The site, visited by thousands of people across the world after Fossett disappeared, provides possible crash site coordinates, Larson said.

So far, the small team has visited and documented

eight sites. They started in the Wellington/Yerington area and are working their way south. They have more than 100 sites to look at, he said.

The team meticulously photographs and documents each site, taking care to preserve it in case they come across the wreck.

"The question is, what if we do find it," he said.

Larson has spent the past

15 years in the bureau's Carson City office and routinely is called to conduct similar searches, he said.

"I have found 'needles in haystacks' for a living as a lands surveyor and am intrigued to offer my past experience for this leisure endeavor," he said.

Larson already has pieced together a timeline of Fossett's flight up until just after 10 a.m. on the day he left on a leisure flight. At 11 a.m., two separate witnesses recalled seeing a plane like Fossett's in the Sunrise Pass area of Douglas County.

"I'd really like to talk to those people," Larson said of the witnesses to the Sunrise Pass sightings.

The group started the ground search in January but have been hampered by snow and weather. They said they hope to continue more rigorously searching this spring.

Saskatchewan Man Recalls 1950 UFO Experience

Ernest Buisse said that in the summer of 1950, a UFO flew past him while at his parents’ farm.

It wasn’t a bird or a plane, and now an elderly Winnipeg (Canada) man wants to tell people about his close encounter.

Ernest Buisse, 82, was on his parents’ farm near Redvers, Saskatchewan, in the summer of 1950 when he believes he witnessed an unidentified flying object.

“It just flew by me,” he said. “I was standing outside the house at 2 a.m. It was as high above me as a hydro pole.”

Buisse described the flying object as round with lights on its underside.

“If they would have stopped and given me a ride, I would have taken it,” he joked.

Buisse remembers the flying object approaching over fields where no roadways existed.

After watching it fly overhead, he ran inside and woke his family up, then exited the house just in time to see the UFO disappearing to the west of the farm while travelling very low to the ground.

Although Buisse said he didn’t tell anyone the following day about what he saw, it soon became apparent he wasn’t the only person who witnessed something strange.

CROP CIRCLES

“The next day there were radio reports,” he said, adding he noticed the UFO had left distinctive “crop circles” in one of his family’s oat fields.

According to UFO watch groups like FarShores, the Redvers area is considered a hotbed for crop circles.

As recently as August 2002, crop circles were reported just north of the rural community, with local media receiving accounts of the oddities.

When Buisse discovered the mysterious marks more than half a century ago, he had never hear of the term “crop circle.”

Today, the story is one he shares with his nine children and 24 grandchildren.

“My father never officially spoke to anyone in authority about this UFO sighting and because of the year it was seen … with no commercial airlines flying and no air force in the area of Redvers … what can one assume but that this was a real UFO sighting?” said Buisse’s daughter, Rachel Spilkin.

She hopes it’s a tale that lives on for others, as it has for her father.

“When I’m outside and it’s dark, I always look up to see what I can see,” Buisse said.

Old Toy 'Gilbert Atomic Energy Lab' Was Radioactive

Honey, why is your face glowing? In 1951, A.C. Gilbert introduced his U-238 Atomic Energy Lab, a radioactive learning set we can only assume was fun for the whole math club. Gilbert, who American Memorabilia claims was "often compared to Walt Disney for his creative genius," had a dream that nuclear power could capture the imaginations of children everywhere. For a mere $49.50, the kit came complete with three "very low-level" radioactive sources, a Geiger-Mueller radiation counter, a Wilson cloud chamber (to see paths of alpha particles), a spinthariscope (to see "live" radioactive disintegration), four samples of uranium-bearing ores, and an electroscope to measure radioactivity.

And what nuclear lab for kids would be complete without an Atomic Energy Manual and Learn How Dagwood Splits the Atom comic book? (The latter was written with the help of General Leslie Groves, director of the Manhattan Project.)

Kids do the darndest things, but not, apparently, nuclear physics. The toy was only sold for one year. It's unclear what effects the uranium-bearing ores might have had on those few lucky children who received the set, but exposure to the same isotope—U-238—has been linked to Gulf War syndrome, cancer, leukemia, and lymphoma, among other serious ailments. Even more uncertain is the long-term impact of being raised by the kind of nerds who would give their kid an Atomic Energy Lab.

Cougar Sightings Continue in Ontario

It might have been a coyote that was killed on Highway 403 a week ago, but the story of a cougar in the city is one that just won't die.

A former hunting dog trainer and outdoorsman from the north end says he and his dogs saw and tracked the city's elusive cougar outside of town last month.

Tom Drewery had a clear view of the big cat as he surprised it mid-afternoon on Feb. 20, three days after a city police officer also reported seeing a cougar in the north end.

Drewery was following Silver Creek as it runs from the power line east of the Brantwood Park Road in a remote, quiet area where he often hikes with his dogs.

Drewery and his dogs tracked the cat for several miles and he took photos of its paw prints.

"I can assure you, it was not a dog, not a 120-pound house cat, nor a coyote, but a beautiful specimen of a cougar in the wild, right here in Brantford," he said.

"It was the real thing. I just wish I had my camera ready when I saw it."

Drewery's photos show large deep prints without claw marks - exactly as a traditional cougar's prints would appear - surrounded by smaller and lighter prints made by his small dogs.

The retired man frequently hikes for miles in the woods near his Ludlow Crescent home in the north end.

While he used to raise and train large hunting dogs, he now has three Jack Russell terriers.

He was walking them off their leads in the woods when he came over a hill and saw the cougar.

"It was 75 to 100 metres away from me and standing still," Drewery said. "I could see the entire body and tail. It was amazing."

He says the animal - which he estimates was 120 pounds - took three large leaps up a hill to escape.

Drewery immediately returned the dogs to their leads and began following the cat's prints.

"The little one caught the cat's scent and we followed it, but it was impossible to think of catching up with it," he said.

A police officer came to see him after he reported the incident and, upon seeing his photos, seemed to agree it had likely been a cougar. "He was convinced and I know what I saw."

Drewery's experience came just days after an officer saw a large cat in the north end at about 2:30 in the morning.

The prints from that sighting were examined by a large cat expert who said they could be a cougar's, a coyote's or a dog's print. Later, he said he believed the print belonged to a large house cat or bobcat.

There have always been reports of cougars or other big cats roaming southern Ontario but few have been proved.

Since the police officer saw the cougar in February, there have been renewed stories of cougars around the city.

On March 16, Brantford's Linda King saw a wounded cougar at the side of Highway 403 and called the OPP.

King said the OPP confirmed it was a cougar and that the animal was put down.

Later, though, the Ministry of Natural Resources said the animal wasn't a cougar after all, but a coyote.

Drewery - who's been hunting and fishing since he was a kid and has trained hunting dogs most of his adult life - is firm in his conviction that there's a cougar out there.

"There's no mistaking a coyote and a cougar. I think the ministry just doesn't want to get everyone upset. I wasn't too surprised to see what I saw."

The dogs and Drewery often track deer in the same area and he says there's an abundance of game which could offer plenty of food for a cougar.

The winter snow offers a perfect backdrop for tracking, he says. He's seen coyotes, wild turkeys, geese, ducks and dozens of deer in the area.

Man Hypnotizes Checkout Girls to Get Cash, Sought by Italian Police

Italian police have issued video footage of a man who has been hypnotizing supermarket checkout staff and getting them to hand over the cash.

In every case, according to reports, the last thing staff remember is a man leaning over and saying 'Look into my eyes' before suddenly finding the till is empty.

In the latest incident captured on video footage the man walked into a bank in Ancona in northern Italy.

He waited until he got to a female bank clerk and, according to the video footage, appears to hypnotise her into handing over more than £600.

He then calmly walked out.

The cashier who was shown the video footage reportedly has no memory of the incident. She only realised what had happened when she saw the money missing.

Checks of CCTV cameras in the bank showed her being hypnotised by the man.

Italian police are now looking for the suspect - who bears an uncanny resemblance to Saddam Hussein - who they believe is either of Indian or North African.

Bison Found Mutilated in Saskatchewan

A local rancher has recently lost a healthy purebred buffalo bull to suspicious circumstances that mirror known mutilation cases.

"Frank" as he was known was between 12 to 13 years old. He weighed 1780 pounds and he towered 11 feet at his hump. His was a purebred Woods and special to the rancher as he was the original bull of the herd. He has sired approx. 160 offspring since the rancher obtained him back in 2000.

We will be releasing the report on this case later tonight along with photos and video and it will be posted in the "mutilations" section.

We are asking residents of Lloydminster (south) rural areas to contact us if you believe you may have seen or heard anything suspicious around your farms between March 10th and March 13th. The bull was last seen alive on March 10th.

Bigfoot and Other Phenomena of Derry Township, Pa.

The Derry area has many annual traditions--including the summer agricultural fair in the township and, recently revived, the fall Railroad Days festival in the borough. Another yearly occurrence in that neck of the woods is several reported sightings of a fellow whose shoes would be hard to fill--that is, if he wore any.

We're talking about Bigfoot, whose exploits are among the unusual phenomena cataloged annually by Stan Gordon--a Greensburg resident who has specialized in researching unexplained happenings in Pennsylvania and beyond since 1959.

Though many of the reports Gordon has collected describe Bigfoot as a "man-like creature," as far as I know, there's no evidence that the creature doesn't also exist in a female version. If it didn't, it would be hard to account for the many decades it apparently has been roaming through the rural areas of our region--unless it's extremely long-lived. Continued...

New Horror Flick Prompts Ghostly Image Submissions

Spooky goings-on have been captured on camera by amateur ghost hunters.

Mysterious figures have been caught in the backgrounds of photographs uploaded on the internet for a website promoting new horror film Shutter, starring Joshua Jackson, out in U.S cinemas tonight.

The website - www.shutter-movie.com - has been inundated with pictures of supposed spirits as visitors to the site have been encouraged to rate the snaps on how real they think they are.

The winning photograph is then analysed by a spirit expert.

The film is about a newlywed couple who experience a tragic car accident which leads to the death of a young girl.

But following the crash, strange white blurs appear in many of the couple's photographs as they are led to believe the blurs are the spirit of the dead girl who they hit on the road.

Video: 9/11 Press For Truth

Features the "Jersey Girls" - the 4 women who banded together after 9/11 to seek the truth from President Bush and the U.S. Government

Although independent investigations began within weeks of both Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination, the same was not true of the attacks of September 11th. Most are unaware that formation of the 9/11 Commission was strongly opposed by many in Washington, including the Bush administration.

It was only due to pressure from the 9/11 families, led by a particular twelve calling themselves the Family Steering Committee, that, fourteen months after the attacks, the first hearing finally began. In 9/11 PRESS FOR TRUTH, five of the most prominent members of the Family Steering Committee tell their story for the first time on film, providing the most powerful argument yet for why 9/11 still needs investigation.

Adapting Paul Thompson's definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (first published by HarperCollins as The Terror Timeline), the filmmakers stitch together rare, overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception, and spin.

Why did the White House stonewall the 9/11 investigation?

The Mysterious Whipporwill Valley Road

What's a New Jersey town without at least one creepy legend? Any sprawling town with acres of woods and nearly 350 years of local history must have at least one, right?

In Middletown, that legend is called Whipporwill Valley Road — a dusty, unpaved roadway that snakes through the Chapel Hill section of town and where it's rare to see another person.

Through the years, a handful of tragic events has given this road an air of legend and mystery. It's not surprising, then, that this winding dirt strip has taken on a sort of cult status for local teens who consider driving down the road in the middle of the night with friends an adolescent rite of passage.

Legends told over the years (and cited by Weird N.J. magazine) include:

Seeing and hearing witches.

A tall, looming tree that takes on human shape after dark.

A mysterious, rogue truck driver who wildly races up and down Whipporwill Valley Road.

Several Middletown teens who have driven on the road said that, while they have yet to actually encounter any of these purported presences, the road does possess an indefinably creepy feel.

One Middletown High School North senior, Joe Clements, 18, has gone as far as making a video of himself and friends driving down the notorious road in the dead of night.

Titled "Driving on Whipporwill," the video starts off with a narrator ominously explaining: "Six friends set out on what they thought was a harmless trip to Whipporwill Valley Road."

The video ends suddenly when the car full of screaming teens spots something, in affectionate homage to "The Blair Witch Project." Clement's video can be viewed at YouTube.com.

Another popular legend attached to Whipporwill Valley Road tells of witches burned at the stake when Europeans first populated Middletown in the 1700s, according to Weird N.J.

According to the legend, before the witches were burned, they placed hexes on all the local farmers who had accused them. All the farmers reportedly died 10 months later of a mysterious, undiagnosed illness.

Ironically, the farmers are said to have been buried just 10 feet away from the witches, who were buried 10 feet outside of the town cemetery. Some visitors who have driven down the road, according to Weird N.J., say they have felt bumps in the road that could have been the original graves.

In time, the witch legend was forgotten, but revived years later in the early 1960s, when remnants of an abandoned mansion that stood in the Whipporwill woods burned to the ground.

While the appearance of the supernatural has never been verified scientifically, Whipporwill Valley Road has a well-documented history of tragic and bizarre incidents.

The most recent incident happened in December 2006 when the body of Nello Caizza, the 76-year-old caretaker of a private residence at 160 Whipporwill Valley Road, was found submerged in near-freezing pool water. Police said Caizza had, apparently unknowingly, driven a John Deere tractor over the pool's plastic cover, which ripped, sending him and the tractor into the water.

Caizza, who had managed the 44-acre property for roughly 20 years, was pronounced dead at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. The death ultimately was ruled an accidental drowning.

When Fred Lazzati, 58, a worker for the Middletown Public Works Department, wasn't spotted by his co-workers on Sept. 1, 1989, they assumed he had come in early, as was often the case, and already was at work in another area.

About 8 a.m., workers found Lazzati's body near a road grader on Whipporwill Valley Road near Chapel Hill Road.

His death upset coworkers in the department, where he had worked for six years.

Public Works Director John McGowan at the time described Lazzati, of Viola Avenue in the Leonardo section, as "your basic construction guy; a hard worker."

Lazzati, who had a heart condition, died from a massive heart attack, the coroner ruled.

On March 6, 1982, Nancy Clark of Fair Haven was stabbed to death by Thomas W. Baliff, who had picked up Clark while she was hitchhiking. Her fully clothed body was found in an area off Whipporwill Valley Road.

Baliff, who was AWOL from the Marines at the time of Clark's murder, pleaded guilty, admitting he stabbed her several times with a 6-inch double-bladed bayonet. He was convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence in New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.

Baliff, now 48, made an appeal for parole in 2004 that was denied by the New Jersey State Parole Board.

There also have been a few near-fatal accidents along the dirt road. On Dec. 17, 2006, two boys — Alex Nazath, 17, and Andrew Aulicino, 16 — rescued three teenage girls whose vehicle had swerved off the road and landed partially submerged in a creek adjacent to Whipporwill Valley Road.

Aulicino used his pocket knife to cut the seat belt that one of the girls still was wearing.

Roughly two years earlier, two Monmouth County men stole a Jeep from a Highlands driveway and crashed it on Whipporwill Valley Road.

Police found the stolen vehicle unoccupied, but arrested the two men based on their fingerprints found on the vehicle and from a telephone call made on a mobile phone that was left accidentally in the Jeep.

Middletown police arrested Ronald Remp, 23, of Keyport and Christopher Martin, 19, of Highlands. The two young men were eventually convicted of auto theft and given two- to four-year sentences.

Official 'Argentina Gnome' Investigation Underway

Police in a town plagued by sightings of a creepy 'gnome' have launched a full-scale investigation - after records showed locals have reported seeing the creature for DECADES.

The knee-high person - who wears a pointy hat and has a distinctive sideways walk – was caught on video two weeks ago by a terrified group of youngsters.

Millions of stunned people viewed the chilling clip after The Sun reported the tale - with some sceptics claiming the footage just showed a dwarf causing mischief.

But detectives in the Argentinean town of General Guemes have dubbed the gnome the new 'Bigfoot' after hundreds of locals reported actually seeing the creature at least once in their lifetime.

Only weeks before it was captured on camera, spooked rail workers called the police to say they had spotted the crab-walking gnome side-stepping its way around the train tracks at night.

National newspaper El Tribuno has reported that fear is now so widespread that the town mayor Salta has been inundated with calls from terrified locals and has launched a full scale police enquiry into the affair.

He said: “I am a little sceptical because I have never personally seen these gnomes - but it’s definitely possible that they exist.

"People here believe in them and we have to respect that.

"I do not think that it is completely impossible. Gnomes are part of our culture here.”

And Police Commissionaire, José Luis Núñez - who has been charged with tracking down the creature's lair, said: "I personally believe in gnomes as I saw one when I was a child.

"But so far we have not been able to determine whether the figure on tape was real or not."

A local poll showed 90 per cent of General Guemes 30,000 residents believed gnomes stalked the streets at night.

Teenager Jose Alvarez captured the creature on video while larking about with pals.

He said: “We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning. I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking. Suddenly we heard something — a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones.

"We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid.

“This is no joke. We are still afraid to go out — just like everyone else in the neighbourhood now.

"One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital."

'Ghost Hunters' Filming at Weston Asylum

The search for ghosts is on at a pre-Civil War hospital in Weston once called The Lunatic Asylum West of the Alleghenies.

Rebecca Jordan, property manager for the former state hospital, says crews for the Sci-Fi Channel television series "Ghost Hunters'' are filming there this week.

Atlantic Paranormal Society researchers Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson and their crew will try to debunk reports of unusual activity. People say they've heard gurneys moving down hallways and screams from inside the former shock therapy room.

Using high-tech recording equipment, the crew will search for evidence of full-body apparitions, moving shadows and electronic voice phenomenon to determine whether the building is haunted.

It's not clear when the program will air.

HISTORY:

The massive Gothic Revival building once christened The Lunatic Asylum West of the Alleghenies has stood largely silent since 1994 -- more than 242,000 square feet of space now inhabited by rodents and a security guard.

The imposing Weston State Hospital is a national historic landmark -- construction started before the Civil War -- and one of the world's largest hand-cut sandstone structures, sitting on nearly 307 acres surrounded by wooded hills.

Virginia lawmakers created the hospital in 1858. Construction stopped when Virginia seceded from the union in 1861 and resumed in 1863 after West Virginia became a separate state. Union and Confederate troops both occupied the grounds as Weston repeatedly changed hands during the war.

The first patients were admitted in October 1864. It was originally intended for 250 patients but housed nearly 10 times that many during the 1950s.

The buildings are uniformly decrepit, with peeling paint, collapsing ceilings, broken windows and damp wood. Some would have to be demolished.

But the main building, its thick stone walls topped by a white clock tower, has potential.

"This was built 150 years ago, and someone knew what they were doing," Dave Hildreth, director of the assets division of the Department of Health and Human Resources, said during a recent tour.

Apartments that once housed the staff have built-in bookcases and fireplaces. The building features skylights, solid oak doors and floors.

For a few years after the patients moved to a new hospital, the state kept the heat on. But with 15 miles of pipe and 921 windows, that cost $300,000 a year. Eventually, the state cut back to groundskeeping and security, for a continuing annual cost of about $100,000.

"The biggest thing for me is that the property is not living up to its highest, best use," Hildreth said. "If we could open the doors and put it in the private sector, it could be something."

East Serbian Witches Continue Black Arts

When Nikola Radosavljevic a psychiatric patient from the village of Jabukovac, in eastern Serbia, grabbed his shotgun last year and went on a rampage, killing nine people, local people put the blame on black magic.

They said Radosavljevic went on his killing spree in revenge against people he believed had cast a spell on him.

Miroslav Srzentic, a local prosecutor in charge of the case, dismisses such talk. “There was no mention of magic at any moment during the investigation,” he scoffs.

“The killer was a seriously ill psychiatric patient who committed a brutal crime after a period without his prescribed therapy.”

But public statements by officials like Srzentic have failed to quench the rumours, and most of public remain convinced that the story confirms the potency of witchcraft in eastern Serbia.

The hunch is backed up by the fact that there certainly are still people, mainly women in remote villages, who claim powers to see and perceive more than others, and who practice magic.

There is barely a single village in eastern Serbia without its local “wise man”, a person with supernatural powers who “sees” and is capable of helping villagers out of their troubles in difficult times.

Radovan Merdovic, the presiding judge of the Municipal Court in the town of Majdanpek, can’t recall a single instance of magic being mentioned in court documents.

But he smiles as he recalls when, as a young judge some two decades ago, he visited a village where a woman known as a local sorceress threw seeds of beans at him, crying: “Alas, the court is your destiny. You won’t leave it ever.”

Life in eastern Serbia is traditionally hard and sometimes far removed from modern society. Such an environment creates a fertile ground for the belief that serious problems can be solved with the aid of unseen powers.

Some would like to be rich, others to fill their homes with babies. Some recourse to witches in search of true love, a cure from an illness, to pass an exam or find out why their dear ones died prematurely.

In effect, the witches act as unofficial marriage guidance counselors or as therapists. The sorceresses cast spells over the dresses of downcast girls, advise them not to sit at home and go in their new spellbound dresses to village festivities. And this can be very successful.

Desanka, aged 68, is one of these wise women. “When I was 12, I fell seriously ill and was in a coma for several days and since then I’ve been seeing things every once in while, usually on the eve of significant religious holidays,” she explains. “If I keep silent about these visions, they are torturing me,” she says.

Desanka is sought out by many people for her skills, even though she lives on a remote farm.

“Grains of corn, seeds of beans, or a thread from the garment worn by the interested person would do if I want to peep at his or her future,” she says.

Like many wise men and women, Desanka comes from the Vlach minority, a community that - in Serbia – is concentrated in the eastern parts, on the border with Romania. She speaks Vlach, too, a language that sounds like a mixture of Romanian and Serbian.

Others known to deal with magic powers and soothsaying call themselves “white” witches – white, because they use their powers to help people rather than in the service of malice.

In their readings, these white witches usually tell their clients that their problems are down to someone else’s spell, which is usually solvable.

Of course, the phenomenon irritates the medical profession. “The number of people who believe in magic is in inverse proportion to the number of educated people,” neuropsychiatrist Milojko Nesovic of Majdanpek general hospital says, dismissively.

As a rule, Vlach sorceresses do not charge for their services. They never employ their powers for their personal benefit. This, they say, would be dangerous as it might come back to “haunt” them. Those who deem their services worthwhile find other ways to return the favours.

Most, like Desanka, suffered from a serious illness in early childhood, barely survived and then discovered they had magical powers.

In his decade-long career, Nesovic has never come across patients he believes were “possessed”. But he freely admits that some have benefited from their belief in the power of magic.

“Some psychiatric patients have significantly improved their mental health thanks to their conviction that Vlach magic actually helps them,” Nesovic says.

The powers of Vlach wise men and women attract more than local villagers. People come from all over the Balkans, traveling hundreds of kilometers from Croatia, Bosnia and Macedonia to seek help.

Locals joke about these “foreign tourists”, jesting there are enough of them to fuel the development of a specific tourist industry.

Ljubomir, 38, a man from the eastern Serbian village of Blizna, says he did not believe in magic until he met a white witch in person.

“After looking at a photograph and her cards, she told me I had broken up a seven-year relationship with my girlfriend because her cousin had thrown my suede shoe into the grave of a woman who had died that day in our neighbourhood,” he said.

“How could she have known about this relationship, or the breakup, or the detail about my shoe vanishing, if she didn’t have some special ability?” Ljubomir asks.

Vlach witches pronounce their magic formulas in melodic chants complemented by ancient rituals. The performance instills a sense of certainty and confidence into the clients that the problem is being dealt with.

The lore of the witches is a far cry from the Serbian Orthodox faith that is the dominant religion in these parts, as local priests know well.

“Even though the locals profess to be Christians, they have kept many pagan customs and rituals,” Ivan Zivkovic, a priest from Majdanpek, confides.

“There are superstitious beliefs elsewhere, but here they abound and are transmitted from one generation to another.”

One obvious deviation from traditional Christianity is the cult of the dead, which remains strong among the Vlachs in eastern Serbia.

At village funerals, mourners still observe the ancient custom of dancing and singing “for the soul of the deceased”.

The dead are constantly commemorated in these parts, after 40 days, after six months, once a year, again at the Day of the Dead, and so on, until the seventh year after the burial, in feasts and festivities with an abundance of food and drink.

Another powerful superstition concerns malicious ghosts. There are many deserted houses in these villages, which everyone avoids. These are houses whose previous owners could not get any sleep on account of the allegedly unbearable nighttime noises.

They mostly abandon them quickly and it occurs to no one to try to stay overnight in those dwellings and check if the reports were true or not.

Another prevalent belief, in which the witches play a role, is “tying”. This involves a woman “tying” a man to herself so he can’t have sex.

Earlier, no one even contemplated the idea that the man in question might have had a sexual problem. Medical assistance was rarely sought, and decades ago, “tying” was sometimes cited as the motive behind assaults and even murders.

Mika Zlatic, a wise man from the village of Crnajka, still helps people counter this type of spell. “First, I look at the seeds and cards to ascertain how many times the client has been ‘tied’,” he notes.

Then he tells the client to undress and measures the naked body with a rope, “tying it in knots” and then untying them, while chanting a prayer.

Wise men can also break the powers of malevolent dragons.

According to a popular superstition, young women can forget about their husbands, while fading away and becoming weak, because of the overnight visits of a water dragon who appears in the image of a beautiful young man.

Petar Markovic, an old man from Bukova Glava, a hamlet a few hours’ walk from Donji Milanovac, claims to be the last remaining dragon-buster in the region.

He kills “dragons in a hollow beech trunk, but only on Tuesdays and Saturdays because water dragons never sleep on other days of the week”.

With its abundant folklore, which is still alive and kicking, eastern Serbia is certainly an important site for researchers. Much of it is still unrecorded. “From the perspective of anthropology, this world is still unknown,” Pauna Es Durlic, an ethnologist at the Majdanpek Museum, says.

Monster Hunter Scanning Loch Ness Again

An intrepid Nessie hunter has launched a new hi-tech bid to track down the most famous resident of Loch Ness.

Gordon Holmes made headlines around the world last year when he filmed footage of what he claimed could be the monster.

Now he is back with a scientific project which he hopes will prove the mythical creature exists.

Gordon is a Nessie hunter with a difference. Instead of scanning Loch Ness from the safety of the shore, he has launched a scientific exploration in a bid to find the beast.

He hass already had some success at capturing what he believes is the Loch Ness Monster, on film at least. The footage taken by him last year of something on the water has been viewed almost 1.5 million times on the internet.

Now he is launching a sonar and video scan of the loch. Gordon's experiment will see his two vessels travel throughout the Urquhart Bay area. He is hopeful that a year on from his now famous sighting, he will finally be able to prove that there is something out there in the waters of Loch Ness.

The Knights Templar Have Resurfaced

The accountancy firm that looks after children's entertainers the Wiggles is not an obvious place to search for the Holy Grail, but that's where the trail led last night. It started with a simple quest - what on earth is a large advertisment headlined "The Ancient & Noble Order of The Knights Templar" doing in the Daily Telegraph? - and it led your intrepid investigator to the wilds of west London and then all the way back to the 12th century.

It was around 1118 when the order of the Knights Templar was founded in the Holy Land by Hughes de Payens and eight other French knights to protect pilgrims and defend Jerusalem, which had been captured by the Crusaders in 1099. Over almost two centuries, the order grew into one of the most rich and powerful institutions of the era. It all came crashing down when the Pope burnt the Templars' last grand master at the stake in Paris in 1314. The order seemed to have disappeared - until yesterday, when this tantalising advertisement appeared.

Apart from the odd misplaced apostrophe and various arcane references to "annulling the bull", the advert gravely announced that the Knights Templar would petition the Pope to "restore the Order with the duties, rights and privileges appropriate to the 21st century and beyond". It called on all Templar groups and "brothers in arms" around the world to get in touch, either via its website, www.theknightstemplar.info, or an address in west London, which could clearly become a mecca for long-lost Templars and baffled Telegraph readers alike.

My quest was to decipher this advertisement and find out why someone would pay several thousand pounds to place it in the press.

Historians agree that the Knights Templar were a powerful military order of warrior monks charged with defending the Holy Land. They amassed great wealth, although their prestige was damaged when the Christians were driven out of Jerusalem in the 13th century. King Philip IV "the Fair" of France is also said to have become indebted to the Templars, and in 1307 ordered the arrest of the grand master of the order, Jacques de Molay, and other key leaders, who were hit with the usual concoction of lurid charges: heresy, sodomy and devil worship. Philip persuaded his pal Pope Clement V to issue a bull suppressing the Templars in 1312. Two years later, Molay was burned at the stake on an island in the Seine.

That, you might think, was that: the cruel destruction of a religious order in the Middle Ages. But this particular nasty, brutish and short episode in medieval history has spawned long centuries of rumour about the Templars. "They have become a kind of mosaic of mythology and conspiracy, secrecy and survival and anti-papacy right across Europe and into North America," says Martin Palmer, a theologian and religious historian.

A popular myth is that the Templars lived on - in Scotland and secret rooms in Paris - hoarding their riches (one cup, used by Christ) and guarding their secrets (Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene). And since the 19th century, all kinds of new Templar groups, often loosely connected to the Masons or taking on familiar Christian rituals, have popped up, claiming to recapture the spirit of the original order.

Last year, the Vatican felt so besieged by the weight of conspiracy and conjecture drummed up by Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code that it took an unsual step: it released a document from its archives called the Chinon parchment, which shows that Pope Clement V's investigation into the Templars in 1308 actually cleared them of the heresy charges that led to many being put to death. Members of Templar groups have called on Pope Benedict to make a formal apology; the Vatican instead issued a collector's edition of the documents for £4,000 a pop.

Why did Rome take such a step? "The Catholic church has been shaken by The Da Vinci Code et al," says Palmer. "It was trying to put its side of the story and quash the idea that the Knights were Satanists conspiring to overturn Christendom. It's a full-frontal assault on the conspiracy theorists, and that's why the document was published with considerable fanfare."

What the advert demands is a formal restoration of the Knights Templar. Such a move would not be without precedent: the Jesuits were suppressed by the Catholic church in 1773 before being formally restored by Rome in 1814. "In the background is a mix of Da Vinci Code nonsense and a hard-headed real estate issue," says Palmer. "The consequences of the papacy restoring the Knights would be to open up an enormous can of worms."

One of the worms is property. While Palmer dismisses contemporary "orders" that claim lineage back to 14th-century Templars, he believes modern Templars could in theory claim rights to property seized by the Catholic church. There could, for instance, be a dispute over the ownership of the Temple Church in London (which passed to the Church of England).

Another possible worm is the reaction that the restoration of the Templars would cause among some Islamic groups who associate the Templars with the Crusades. Palmer believes the Pope, who has worked hard to build bridges between Islam and Christianity after several gaffes, would be wary of triggering more conflict with the Muslim world.

And so I find myself in west London, at the address given in the advert. It turns out to be the offices of Sloane & Co, a small accountancy firm set up by David Sloane in 1974. Sloane is no boring bean-counter - he's a rock accountant. Over the years, he's done the books for INXS, Maxi Priest, Mark Morrison and even Melinda Messenger. His top clients today are the Wiggles, the Australian preschool entertainers who sport primary-coloured turtlenecks and have made millions from selling CDs of songs about Dorothy the Dinosaur.

The connection between turtleneck-wearing entertainers and a secretive group of warrior monks has me stumped. At Sloane & Co's offices, the stairs are being redecorated. Hang on: is that an image of the Turin Shroud in undercoat? Only kidding.

According to the Charities Commission, Sloane is the official representative of the Knights Templar Trust charity, which is listed on the advertisement. Sadly, Sloane is not at his office and does not return my calls. All he will say is the Ancient & Noble Order of the Knights Templar "is a client of Sloane & Co". Why does the client want to reinvigorate and restore the Knights Templar? Apparently a press release in a couple of days will reveal all.

The Templars' website is registered under the name of another accountant. Are the Templars a group of accountants? Sadly, this man is said to have left the company of tax accountants on the Isle of Man three years ago and he eludes my attempts to find him. Still, if the Templars hid from us for 700 years through a combination of secret trap doors and shy accountants, it's probably no disgrace that I can't locate them in one afternoon.

"Were there a serious attempt to re-establish the order, we would see all kinds of funny creatures coming out from under the stones," predicts Palmer. "This could be an interesting meeting of mysticism and Mammon."

Investigation Results in Photo of Full Body Apparition

Ghost hunters from Cheshire Paranormal Society (CPS) took this photo during an investigation on the historic Packhorse Bridge in the village of Caergwrle, near Wrexham, the scene of a number of sightings.

This ghostly figure is standing on the Packhorse Bridge, Caergwrle, near Wrexham, according to Cheshire Paranormal Society chairman John Millington. At the time members hadn't realised what was apparently standing on the bridge in front of them, but some group members had reported feeling uneasy and other paranormal activity was also recorded, such as so-called orbs of light. Through further study and assistance from members of Hope and Caergwrle Heritage Society, it's thought three ghosts haunt the bridge; a young girl and two women.

Members believe this photo shows the ghost of Squire Yonge who, the history books say, was well known in the area 300 years ago. The group also believe that the sighting of ghosts on the bridge could be to do with a former burial ground in the area and that the bridge was the access point.

Are Will Smith and Jada the New Faces of Scientology?

Are Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Kimora Lee Simmons the new celebrity faces of Scientology? The case is certainly made in “Scientology Under Siege,” Radar magazine’s April cover story.

In the piece, the magazine said, “The Church has also set its sights on African Americans, opening up a center in Harlem in 2003 and making a strong play for Hollywood supercouple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.”

Despite a fervent denial from Smith’s rep—“I can tell you with 100 percent certainty this is not true”—sources close to Smith earlier told this column that the actor definitely is becoming a member of the religion. “He’s been getting more and more involved (in Scientology),” said one source. “And it isn’t just him, it’s definitely Jada, too.”

“It’s not so much that anyone is upset that Will is becoming a Scientologist,” the source added after seeing a copy of the nine-page Radar piece. “It’s that as he becomes more involved, you’d think he’d sort of help fly the flag with Tom (Cruise), who seems to only get a bad rap for it, while Will does this and comes through just fine.”

As for Kimora Lee Simmons, the Radar piece makes the case for including her among the ranks of celebrity Scientologists. The magazine points to a 2006 gathering where Scientology leader David Miscavige “spoke glowingly of Kimora Lee Simmons’ efforts to distribute a personalized edition of Hubbard’s “The Way to Happiness,” featuring her image on the cover, to school kids in New Jersey.” Simmons’ rep said that the designer/model is not a Scientologist.

If you’re curious about the other celebs that take part in the religion, Radar covers that ground, too. Ones you’re probably aware of are Kirstie Alley, Lisa Marie Presley and Jenna Elfman.

Some you might not have known about include musician Beck, former “South Park” chef Isaac Hayes (Hayes reportedly quit the show after it spoofed the religion), Juliette Lewis, Giovanni Ribisi (whose sister happens to be married to Beck), FNC reporter Greta Van Susteren and the voice of Bart Simpson, Nancy Cartwright.

2001: A Space Odyssey Author Arthur C. Clarke Dies

Science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who co-wrote the epic film "2001: A Space Odyssey" and raised the idea of communications satellites in the 1940s, has died at age 90, an associate said.

Clarke had been wheelchair-bound for several years with complications stemming from a youthful bout with polio and had suffered from back trouble recently, said Scott Chase, the secretary of the nonprofit Arthur C. Clarke Foundation.

He died early Wednesday at a hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he had lived since the 1950s, Chase said.

"He had been taken to hospital in what we had hoped was one of the slings and arrows of being 90, but in this case it was his final visit," he said.

Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick shared an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay for "2001." The film grew out of Clarke's 1951 short story, "The Sentinel," about an alien transmitter left on the moon that ceases broadcasting when humans arrive.

As a Royal Air Force officer during World War II, Clarke took part in the early development of radar. In a paper written for the radio journal "Wireless World" in 1945, he suggested that artificial satellites hovering above fixed spot above Earth could be used to relay telecommunications signals across the globe.

He is widely credited with introducing the idea of the communications satellite, the first of which were launched in the early 1960s. But he never patented the idea, prompting a 1965 essay that he subtitled, "How I Lost a Billion Dollars in My Spare Time."

Clarke wrote dozens of novels and collections of short stories and more than 30 non-fiction works during a career as a writer that began in the 1950s. He served as a television commentator during several of the Apollo moon missions and co-wrote a 1970 account of the first lunar landing with the Apollo 11 crew.

He was knighted in 1998.

Indiana Woman Uncovers Lost Graves

Shirley Wolf has always had a keen interest in geology. So when she took up grave dowsing, one might not question her actions. Her work has resulted in the discovery of many unidentified black cemeteries around Southern Indiana.

As the former president of the Geological Society of Southern Indiana, Wolf spent a lot of her time sitting in on lectures for her own research and for the education of her students at Ivy Tech at IU Southeast.

During one conference, Wolf became interested in cemetery research. She began to ask her neighbors if she could do some research for their families as practice. As she found information, she saw references to a cemetery that did not match the two known African-American cemeteries in Floyd County, Ind., where she lives.

As clues started to match up, she said she soon discovered an unidentified cemetery on a local man’s property. With his permission, she began to learn new things about African-American heritage that no one else ever knew just by using the “dowsing technique.”

According to a study done by William E. Whittaker at the University of Iowa, “dowsing” is a method used to find geological items underground. Using two metal rods, people walk over fields in straight or curved lines until, by some supernatural power, their rods cross, which signifies a find.

By using this method, Wolf said she can identify where there is a grave and its depth, and from there, whether it is a male or female corpse, she said.

People like Whittaker speculate the scientific explanation of dowsing. She said she does not know why it works but just knows it does.

“I don’t know how electricity works, but I know if I turn on my light switch, the light will turn on,” Wolf said.

According to Wolf, no one was working on the African-American cemeteries in the area, so finding all these unmarked graves brought her great satisfaction, she said.

Families around the Floyd County area come to Wolf with speculations that their private properties might have a cemetery. Many of these landowners are direct descendants of the people buried, too, Wolf said.

“I am telling them things that they never knew about their families,” Wolf said.

Some of the graves, she said, date back to the 1850s.

Sandy Ross Sandford, an old neighbor of Wolf’s, said she has always had a strong desire to find out information about her descendants, so when Wolf came to her, she was elated.

“It’s made a big difference in my life,” Sandford said.

Not only did Wolf find more than 100 graves from Sandford’s family, she said, but also her great-great-great-grandfather’s will and the freedom papers of her great-great-grandfather.

Sandford and her two cousins, who share the same desire to know more about the family, are still searching, she said.

“It’s been a wonderful revolution for me,” Sandford said.

In Floyd County, there are 10 definite cemeteries, Wolf said, while several more are still under investigation.

When asked if she had thought about extending her search for the cemeteries, Wolf said she was not so sure.

“There is plenty of work in Floyd’s cemeteries,” she said.

Birmingham Named Weirdest Place to Live in the United Kingdom

IT’S OFFICIAL - Birmingham is the weirdest place to live in the UK.

With freakish weather, including a tornado and a shower of frogs and tales of alien visits, the Second City comes first place in a spotters’ guide to the country’s real twilight zones.

Almost two-thirds of Brummies believe in the supernatural after reports of giant hailstones hitting city streets and Martians dropping in for mince pies at the Rowley Regis home of Jean Hingley in 1979.

Dr Kenny Webster, resident scientist at Birmingham Science Museum Thinktank, said: "It will come as no surprise to the residents of Birmingham that we live in our own twilight zone.

"Birmingham has the youngest population in Europe and it is well recorded that children entering puberty report the highest number of ghostly sightings. It has even been suggested that imaginary friends might be ghosts."

The shower of baby frogs which occurred in Sutton Park in 1954 is one of the curious incidents mentioned in the guide, put together by Euro Disney to promote its latest attraction called The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Sylvia Mowday had taken her young son and daughter to see a naval exhibition at the park when the sky suddenly turned dark.

"I thought it was hail, but my son suddenly said ’It isn’t hail, mum, they’re frogs, baby frogs’," Mrs Mowday said.

"There were literally thousands of them. When we looked up we could see them. They covered our shoulders and umbrellas. This went on for about five minutes, but afterwards we were afraid to move in case we trod on them."

Marian Baxter, historian and local studies librarian for Sutton, is familiar with the tale which hit the national headlines.

She said: "It certainly isn’t something which happens every day.

"Sutton has got a lot of ghosts, bumps and bangs which haven’t been explained."

Between 1957 and 1958, Cynthia Appleton, a housewife from Fentham Road, Aston, claimed she was repeatedly visited by "spacemen" who showed off their futuristic technology, taught her Venusian and got her pregnant with a "space baby".

After lots of local interest the whole family, including baby Matthew, appeared to have vanished.

In January 1979 Jean Hingley had just seen her husband drive off to work when she noticed a large orange sphere hovering near the driveway.

She rushed back to the house and said three tiny winged figures, wearing goldfish-bowl helmets, flew past her into the living room and started shaking the Christmas tree, dislodging the fairy from the top.

The strange beings told Mrs Hingley they came "from the sky" then talked about Jesus and Tommy Steele.

She offered them a tray of mince pies and they took one each before flying off to their ship, which then lifted up in the direction of Oldbury or West Bromwich.

In July 2005 a twister ripped a kilometre-long path across the city and caused £40 million’s worth of damage.

The 130mph winds stripped houses of their roofs, uprooted hundreds of trees and flung cars across streets.

In just two minutes it devastated large parts of south Birmingham with Moseley, Sparkbrook, Kings Heath and Balsall Heath among the worst hit.

Scientists said the frog downpour over Sutton Park, in 1954, could be put down to yet another tornado.

The winds would have whipped across a pond, hoovering up the frogs and carried them away in a cloud until they got too heavy and were dropped.

More bizarre weather was recorded in December 1980, when a giant hailstone weighing 1lb 6ozs landed in Brum.

In 1978, 11-year-old Tracy McCarthy was listening to music on a home-recorded tape when the song was interrupted by a crashing noise, screams and a boy’s voice calling "is there anybody down there?"

Her mother Joyce McCarthy said: "We recorded the music some time ago and there was nothing like that on the tape. The ghostly voices suddenly appeared."

The family lived in an old mining area and it was since discovered that the nearby Black Bat mine had been closed in 1883 after a roof caved in and killed a group of men and boys.

Australian Man Selling His Entire Life

A man in Australia is hoping to make a fresh start after a failed marriage by putting his entire life up for sale on the auction website eBay.

Ian Usher, 44, has decided to put everything he owns - including his three-bedroom home, car, and job - up for sale to fund his escape from painful memories.

Bids for the "life package" will start at just one Australian dollar, but Mr Usher is hoping to pocket £230,000 from the sale on the internet auction website.

Mr Usher, who emigrated from Scarborough six years ago and became an Australian citizen in 2006, split from his wife Laura last year after five years of marriage.

The split from the woman he calls "the best girl in the world" has left Mr Usher desperate for a new life elsewhere, without the prolonged pain of having to sell off their belongings bit by bit.

He said: "My life here is absolutely fantastic, but I just want to make a clean break and start again literally, so I am selling everything lock, stock and barrel, from the contents of my wardrobe to my kettle, and from my cutlery to my car. My aim is to walk away at the end of the eBay auction with my wallet in one pocket and my passport in the other, go to the airport and just jump on the first available plane to anywhere. My tale is a bit of a sad one, but I am not trying to sell anyone a sob story."

The Hell Hollow Road Legend

What: Hell Hollow Road, a twisty track through the darkling woods of Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown, Connecticut.

Why you should know it: Word has it, it's haunted. This is where, more than 300 years ago, British soldiers killed a little Pequot girl. To this day, hikers and hunters say you can hear her screams.

“Screaming Maud”: She is known by this name (or Maude), though no one can say how an Indian girl would come by such a moniker. But then, as with so many local legends, what really happened here is lost in the mists of time.

Another Maude? And, in fact, there is another story of another Maude, a witch, who was hanged and buried here.

Investigations: Several teams of ghost hunters have visited this place and what is believed to be the site of Maud's grave. Some have filed reports of their findings online. Check out the Web sites of Creepy Connecticut (“Skeptically Believe!!!” drazor1.tripod.com/id58.html) or PIG-NE, the Paranormal Investigations Group of New England (www.pig-ne.com/031107.html).

Being watched: Mike of Rhode Island, who prefers his last name not be printed, led a team there in the dark of night. “We didn't hear any screams,” he says, but he and a friend felt “an ominous presence” as they walked through the woods in the dark. It was, Mike says, as if someone were following and glaring at them.

Night lights: Mike's team also took a lot of pictures of strange orange lights in the branches of the pitch-black forest. He can offer no explanation for these.

The “goosebump factor”: Mike and his friends assigned the place a goosebump factor of 65, which places it somewhat above “moderate goosebumps on the arms” but slightly below “goosebumps all over the body.” A goosebump factor of 100 would be “full-blown spine-tingling dread.”

EVPs: When members of PIG-NE visited Maud's grave, they reported mysterious drops in temperature (down to minus 4 degrees) and several “EVPs” (Electronic Voice Phenomena) in which the dead whispered into their tape recorders, saying such things as “Wait a minute” and “It's OK, Mommy.” Also, several members reported feelings of ineffable sadness and shortness of breath.

Some debunking: Another visit to Maud's grave, by a group called GHOST (for Grim Hauntings Or Skeptic's Truth) determined that Maud's tombstone — a shattered thing on which the date 1647 (or 1654) is barely legible — was made of modern poured concrete. (Goosebump factor: 0.)

Other apparitions: Several visitors to this place have reported seeing specters of “a lady,” “a hooded figure” and a Civil War soldier. Also, a small yellow ball that looked like a flame. Some have said that if you stand on Maud's grave and say her name, your car will break down.

Off the record: This reporter, being a weenie, visited Hell Hollow Road in broad daylight and so can report no screams. He did leave his digital tape recorder on to capture voices from the grave, and even invited Maud to comment, but the recorder captured only the immense silence of the woods — not one bird song — and his footsteps crunching through the snow. Which raises the question: Are ghosts nocturnal? Do they sleep?

Where's Maud? Maud may haunt this place, but to find her grave, you have to follow Hell Hollow Road into Sterling and cross Route 49 onto Cedar Swamp Road. Just down on the right is a small cemetery, and just beyond that, a path into the woods. Follow this path. Shortly after you cross a stream, you will see a massive, gnarled dead tree on your right (very spooky) and, on your left, the stone foundations of a small shed. Maud's grave is at the center of this. Treat her with respect.

The Kaolinovy Creature: Alien or Human?

A tiny body was discovered in the village of Kaolinovy, Russia, on August 13, 1996. The village is located on the eastern slope of the Ural Mountains near the town of Kyshtym in the Chelyabinsk Oblast (an Oblast is a federal region administrated by Russia). Due to poor or sensationalized press courage at that time, the actual story of the discovery varies. According to an article published by Pravda-On-line, the best account comes from Major (Ret.) Vladimir Bendlin, a former investigator with the police department of Kyshtym.

Bendlin claims that Police detained Vladimir Nurtdinov during the summer of 1996 on suspicion of stealing some electrical wire. Nurtdinov was carrying a bundle thought to contain some of the wire. When it was examined, the bundle was found to contain a red cloth with the remains of a tiny body inside. Police videotaped the cloth and the body. During that process, Bendlin casually commented on how much the body looked like an alien from a science fiction movie.

Bendlin opened an investigation and approached the only physician he could find on duty later that day. Igor Uskov was an Urologist with the local hospital. Uskov laughed when he heard Bendlin’s alien explanation for the creature and countered with one of his own. The doctor was certain this was a twenty-week-old fetus and later confirmed that theory by having it examined by Irina Ermolayeva, a prominent gynecologist. She also agreed that the body looked like a fetus and added that it had probably been expelled during a miscarriage or an illegal abortion.

Things changed when Stanislav Samoshkin, chief of morbid anatomy at Kyshtym Hospital got involved. After performing an autopsy, he declared the body to be neither human nor animal. His primary argument centered on the fact that a human skull consists of six bones, while this one had four. Although his opinion was in the minority, it set off a firestorm of publicity.

As journalists and a television crew from Japan arrived in town offering cash for interviews, the original arrest story morphed into something completely different. The new story involved a woman who found the creature alive in a cemetery on the outskirts of Kaolinovy in the middle of the night. Tamara Vasilievna Prosvirina said she felt compelled to go to the cemetery by a voice in her head. The woman often went there during the day to gather flowers placed on graves. Known for her bizarre behavior in the village, Prosvirina described the creature as a ’child’ that had large eyes, no ears, could not talk and ‘whistled’ to get her attention. She said that she brought the creature back to her apartment.

Other paid witnesses said they came to Prosvirina’s apartment and saw the gray-skinned creature alive. Because of her bizarre behavior and often-outrageous claims, Prosvirina was reported to medical authorities which took her into custody for her own safety. Although Prosvirina and her neighbors claim that the authorities were told about a ‘child’ in the house as they took her away, they ignored the warning and left. With no one to feed the ‘child,’ it died. The neighbors failed to explain why they did not remove the ‘child’ or make an effort to feed it.

Enter Vladimir Nurdinov who was later arrested by Major Bendlin. Although he never mentioned any connection to Prosvirina when he was originally arrested, Nurdinov came up with a whole new account after being paid for his story. In the new version, he was a friend of Prosvirina and knew about her the ‘child‘ she found in the cemetery. Knowing the ‘child’ was left alone in her apartment, he went there and found it dead in her bedroom. He removed the body and brought it to his home.

Nurdinov’s account of what happened next differs from Bendlin’s report. Nurdinov claims that the police came to his home to question him about electrical wire he was accused of stealing in the village of Novogorny. When they found the tiny body, they thought it might be the mummified remains of a child and took it away. Nurdinov made no mention of his arrest.

From that point on things went downhill as far as the truth is concerned. Claiming a Police Investigator contacted her; UFO Researcher Galina Semenkova traveled about one hundred and forty miles from Kamensk-Uralsky to investigate. She is head of the Star Academy UFO-Contact in Zolotov Method organization. Claiming she received the remains of the creature from a Police Investigator, she headed back to Kamensk-Uralsky. On the way back, she says that Aliens from a flying saucer confronted her and demanded the body.

According to the Japanese Television Crew, the body was already missing when they arrived. However, they did not immediately speak to the Police just assumed someone in the town had it. This is confirmed by their cash offer of $200,000 to anyone in the town who could produce the body. No one could produce the body, but plenty of people described as ‘bums and drunkards’ by the Russian Press lined up to tell their story about the creature.

The cloth that Nurdinov claims he used to wrap the body found at Prosvirina’s apartment has only added to this convoluted mystery. Although blood stains originally found on that red cloth were tested and found to be human, a report in the Russian Press in 2004 said that Vadim Chernobrov (a Moscow UFO researcher) claims that more recent tests show the creature had nothing in common with humans. No information was provided which makes clear what was tested, how or by whom to provide these amazing results.

Now yet another amazing revolution comes to us from Russia. According to a Pravda-On-Line article on 3/24/07, the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Moscow reports: “A gene discovered in the DNA samples doesn’t correspond with any genes pertaining to humans or anthropoid apes,” said Vadim Chernobrov, a coordinator with the public research center Kosmopoisk. “No gene samples available at the laboratory match the gene. The experts in DNA research haven’t come across any creatures with such an elongated DNA molecule,” Chernobrov added.

It’s important to understand that none of this information or the claims being made come from the Russian Government. They seem to feel that the body was the result of a miscarriage or illegal abortion. There might also be a good explanation for the condition of the body. An accident at a nearby radioactive chemical plant in 1957 caused the area to be polluted with about half the amount of radioactive material released in Chernobyl during that accident. That amount would be more than enough to account for all sorts of genetic and other abnormalities for many years to come.

New Mexico and Wisconsin Top Number of UFO Sightings in U.S.

The next time you're out at night, and there is clear weather, you might want to spend some extra time looking up at the skies -- and understand that folks in New Mexico are doing the same thing.

Wisconsin ranks second to New Mexico in number of UFO sightings. The two states are considered hotbeds of interest for those fascinated by such phenomena, and who or what might be visiting.

BUFO Radio, and Burlington News, based in Burlington, are two of the leading media outlets for information on UFOs, paranormal events and other mysteries. Run by Brad and Mary Sutherland, the organization tracks and compiles information from all over the world.

Mary Sutherland also has authored books and many articles on UFOs and has earned a reputation among UFO chasers and those interested in sightings.

Wisconsin interest in UFOs does not stop there. John Hoppe maintains www.ufowisconsin.com, which lists nine UFO sightings in the state in the last 15 months. One of the most recent reportedly came this January in Beloit. The site lists more than 1,000 sightings in the state overall.

While Wisconsin has its share of interest in UFOs, New Mexico is the front-runner. A conference on the topic will be hosted in Aztec, N.M., on March 28-30. Experts from around the world are on the agenda.

Many areas of New Mexico are remote, much more than most areas in Wisconsin, making it obvious why somebody or something wanting to visit earth, and remain as inconspicuous as they can, would pick the state. The skies often are crystal clear at night. New Mexico just doesn't get as many cloudy nights as we do in the Midwest.

Perhaps the most famous incident in New Mexico was a 1947 crash near Roswell. Reports are that the military cleaned up the site as quickly as possible and has been hush-hush about it ever since.

Wikipedia says this about the incident: "The Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a press release stating that personnel from the field's 509th Bomb Group had recovered a crashed 'flying disc' from a ranch near Roswell, sparking intense media interest. Later the same day, the Commanding General of the Eighth Air Force stated that, in fact, a weather balloon had been recovered by RAAF personnel, rather than a "flying saucer." A subsequent press conference was called, featuring debris said to be from the crashed object that seemed to confirm the weather balloon description.

"The case was quickly forgotten and almost completely ignored, even by UFO researchers, for more than 30 years. Then, in 1978, ufologist Stanton T. Friedman interviewed Major Jesse Marcel, who was involved with the original recovery of the debris in 1947. Marcel expressed his belief that the military had covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft.

His story circulated through UFO circles, being featured in some UFO documentaries at the time. In February 1980, The National Enquirer ran its own interview with Marcel, garnering national and worldwide attention for the Roswell incident.

"Additional witnesses and reports emerged over the following years. They added significant new details, including claims of a large military operation dedicated to recovering alien craft and aliens themselves, at as many as 11 crash sites, and alleged witness intimidation. In 1989, former mortician Glenn Dennis put forth a detailed personal account, wherein he claimed that alien autopsies were carried out at the Roswell base."

Congressional hearings were held on the Roswell incident, and interest remains large in it today. The UFO International Museum and Research Center and an annual UFO festival are in Roswell.

Incidents actually pre-date the Roswell crash. Sightings have been reported as far back as the 1920s and '30s. Another one that gets a lot of publicity came on July 16, 1945, near San Antonio, New Mexico.

Dulce has become infamous for its cattle mutilations and an alleged underground alien base. On April 12, 1964, a Socorro police officer reported seeing a UFO south of that town. Mexican TV actually showed video of what were reported to be UFOs in the New Mexico skies a few years ago.

At least three movies -- "The Man Who Fell To Earth," starring David Bowie, in 1976, "2010" which was released in 1984, and "Contact" in 1997 -- have been shot in New Mexico because of the sightings and stories surrounding them.

New Mexico does not have a complete monopoly on sightings in the Southwest. The "Phoenix Lights" in 1997 have become perhaps the incident reportedly seen by the largest number of people. Reports of those sightings included people in Arizona, Sonora, Mexico and Nevada.

The Southwest, from Texas through Arizona, seems to have done more to promote UFO sightings as tourist attractions. Several communities publicize the fact sightings have occurred in their areas.

While BUFO and UFO Wisconsin have national reputations among those who are interested in UFOs, they have not received a lot of media attention in the state. Sightings in the state seldom make mainstream media.

Perhaps that's because of the natural skepticism among many Midwesterners. Many consider reports of sightings hoaxes.

The Beast of Bladenboro Returns!

This beast refuses to die.

Half a century after hunters came by the hundreds to stake out Bladenboro’s big swamp, the elusive vampire cat is still on the prowl.

It graces the community newsletter from time to time and headlines Beast Week, the town’s annual celebration that leads up to a Boost the ’Boro festival.

The beast of Bladenboro, though a bona fide terror in its day, has been embraced by a city looking for resurgence and finding national recognition by way of its folklore.

“The beast is no longer this dreaded embarrassment or shameful thing. I think people are really excited about it now,” Hiram Hester, former chairman of the Boost the ’Boro board, said.

The bloodthirsty shadow-dweller has found a haven in the community where it wreaked havoc in January of 1954.

The killing reportedly started on New Year’s Eve, 1953, when a pair of dogs that belonged to Johnny Vause were “torn to ribbons and crushed.”

Two more pairs of dogs were mauled, their blood guzzled by the beast, and chief of police Roy Fores told mayor W.G. Fussell about the odd goings-on.

Fussell, who often called the Wilmington Morning Star with local news items, picked up the phone. On January 5, 1954, a front-page story titled “Vampire Tendencies Found In Bladenboro’s ‘Monsters’” appeared in the Star.

The story snowballed for 10 days with reports of the beast being picked up by wire services and published as far away as Arizona.

Closer to home, Gene Norton recalled the talk in Bladenboro, even though he was only 9 years old when the beast roamed.

“I remember people talking about animals that had been killed by something that had sucked all the blood out of them,” Norton wrote in a document submitted to the History Channel for use in its upcoming “MonsterQuest” feature. “Everyone was on edge for a while as something was obviously doing this to animals, so the thought was that it might turn on people.”

Fear and frustration came to residents who lived near the beasts’ stomping grounds as well as the biologists trained to find logical explanations for unusual events.

“Normally we try to ascertain the situation, find out the details of what they think they’ve seen,” said N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission biologist Tom Padgett, who patrols District 4, which includes Bladen, Cumberland and three other counties.

“A lot of times they hear strange noises, but most sightings of whatever they think it might be are at night. And there’s usually no physical evidence; no hair, no tracks. We’re not saying the people are not seeing something, but it’s very frustrating for us as well as for the folks who are involved when there’s no physical proof,” Padgett said.

Mayor called off search

Proof, though, was secondary to the compelling stories of a blood-sucking, jaw-crushing creature roaming the small mill town.

“There were right at 1,000 hunters from across the country who came to town, newspapers came to town,” Hester said.

“It got kind of extreme. Someone killed a bobcat and the mayor said, ‘Oh, we’ve killed the beast,’ just to kind of save the people from shooting each other.”

Hester acknowledged that some human mischief undoubtedly took place at the height of the beast’s reign. But some of the reported deaths of dogs and goats could have been caused by a bobcat or coyote.

“We do have reports of people losing livestock. That’s been going on for years,” Padgett said. “Most of the time it’s feral dogs. Occasionally it’s a bobcat.

“I tell people if they have an encounter with something and they don’t know what it is, if there’s any sign there, like a track, put a bucket over it and try to contact somebody in the wildlife commission,” Padgett said.

But even Padgett, the Agent Scully-type skeptic who relies on hard evidence, won’t plant a silver bullet in the small town folklore that has become a source of pride.

“I try to be as objective as I can. With all the calls we get, there may be something out there,” Padgett said.

“Over the years we have confiscated mountain lions that people had as pets. There’s always that possibility.”

Documented Case of Real-Life Demonic Possession

An American woman who levitated, demonstrated paranormal psychic powers and spoke foreign languages unknown to her was clearly demon possessed, according to a board-certified psychiatrist and associate professor of clinical psychiatry at New York Medical College.

The unnamed woman, with a long history of involvement with Satanic groups, was observed by a team of priests, deacons, several lay assistants, psychiatrists, nuns, some of whom also had medical and psychiatric training, levitating six inches off the ground while objects flew off shelves in the same room, according to Dr. Richard E. Gallagher, who documented the case in the February issue of the New Oxford Review.

"Periodically, in our presence, Julia would go into a trance state of a recurring nature," writes Gallagher. "Mentally troubled individuals often 'dissociate,' but Julia's trances were accompanied by an unusual phenomenon: Out of her mouth would come various threats, taunts and scatological language, phrases like 'Leave her alone, you idiot,' 'She's ours,' 'Leave, you imbecile priest,' or just 'Leave.' The tone of this voice differed markedly from Julia's own, and it varied, sometimes sounding guttural and vaguely masculine, at other points high pitched. Most of her comments during these 'trances,' or at the subsequent exorcisms, displayed a marked contempt for anything religious or sacred."

The subject would have no recollection of speaking these phrases upon recovering from the trance-like state, according to Gallagher.

"Sometimes objects around her would fly off the shelves, the rare phenomenon of psychokinesis known to parapsychologists," reports Gallagher. "Julia was also in possession of knowledge of facts and occurrences beyond any possibility of their natural acquisition.

"She commonly reported information about the relatives, household composition, family deaths and illnesses, etc., of members of our team, without ever having observed or been informed about them," he said. "As an example, she knew the personality and precise manner of death (i.e., the exact type of cancer) of a relative of a team member that no one could conceivably have guessed. She once spoke about the strange behavior of some inexplicably frenzied animals beyond her direct observation: Though residing in another city, she commented, 'So those cats really went berserk last night, didn't they?' the morning after two cats in a team member's house uncharacteristically had violently attacked each other at about 2 a.m."

Julia requested a Roman Catholic exorcism ritual, convinced from the beginning of her consultations that she was under demonic attack.

"The exorcism began on a warm day in June," Gallagher recollects. "Despite the weather, the room where the rite was being conducted grew distinctly cold. Later, however, as the entity in Julia began to spout vitriol and make strange noises, members of the team felt themselves profusely sweating due to a stifling emanation of heat. The participants all said they found the heat unbearable.

"Julia at first had gone into a quiet trance-like state. After the prayers and invocations of the Roman Ritual had been going on for a while, however, multiple voices and sounds came out of her. One set consisted of loud growls and animal-like noises, which seemed to the group impossible for any human to mimic. At one point, the voices spoke in foreign languages, including recognizable Latin and Spanish. (Julia herself only speaks English, as she later verified to us.)

"The voices were noticeably attacking in nature, and often insolent, blasphemous and highly scatological. They cursed and insulted the participants in the crudest way. They were frequently threatening – trying, it appeared, to fight back – 'Leave her alone,' 'Stop, you whores' (to the nuns), 'You'll be sorry,' and the like.

"Julia also exhibited enormous strength. Despite the religious sisters and three others holding her down with all their might, they struggled to restrain her. Remarkably, for about 30 minutes, she actually levitated about half a foot in the air."

The purpose of Gallagher's paper, he says, is to "document a contemporary and clear-cut case of demonic possession." He explains that even those who doubt such a phenomenon exists may find this case "rather persuasive."

"Possession is only one and not the most common type of demonic attack. Possession is very rare, though not as exceedingly so as many imagine," he concludes. "So-called 'oppression,' or 'infestation,' is less rare, though hardly frequent either, and sometimes more difficult to discern accurately."

UFO's Reported Over Pasco County, Florida

An unidentified flying object caught the attention of some Pasco County residents early Friday.

Many described the object -- a rotating triangle of three white lights plus a flashing red light that stayed put -- as a UFO.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says some Wesley Chapel residents called 911 around 6:25 a.m. wondering what was up -- literally.

A deputy's report says it was a balloon, but doesn't get more specific than that

Scientology Accuses Anonymous Protesters of Threats

A judge today rejected a petition by the Church of Scientology that sought to keep protesters away from church property in Clearwater, but the church has filed an almost identical lawsuit that seeks a temporary restraining order against the same group of protesters. No decision has been made in the new case.

Meanwhile, the church posted a video on YouTube about the Scientology protest group that calls itself Anonymous.

The Church of Scientology says it has received "numerous threats of violence'' from members of the Internet activist group Anonymous, according to a church lawsuit filed Tuesday that seeks to restrain protesters this weekend.

The church is asking the Pinellas Circuit Court to bar Anonymous protesters from coming within 500 feet of Scientology buildings in downtown Clearwater during Anonymous' Saturday demonstration, which would be the group's second anti-Scientology rally in recent weeks.

No hearing had been scheduled by late this morning.

Called a "petition for injunction for protection against repeat violence,'' the church's suit names 22 people, most from the Tampa Bay area, who the Church of Scientology believes to be members of Anonymous, which describes itself as a loosely organized group united against the injustices perpetrated by Scientology.

"The threats have included a 'formal declaration of war' and specific threats to assassinate or execute Rev. Heber Jentzsch, the president of the Church of Scientology International on or about March 13, 2008,'' the lawsuit states.

The suit says Scientology churches around the world have been vandalized and have received numerous threats of violence.

"Various members of the group (Anonymous) have encouraged the use of attacks, raids, bombs, hand grenades, machine guns and executions of Church leaders,'' the suit states.

Much of the violence has been encouraged and promoted, the lawsuit states, through videos on YouTube. Numerous Internet postings and videos are included as exhibits in the church's suit.

While the complete membership of Anonymous is unknown, the 22 named in the lawsuit "have been identified, on information and belief, as leaders and/or supporters of the organization's efforts against the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization in Clearwater within the last 30 days,'' the church states in its suit.

Anonymous coalesced in January after a video of Scientologist Tom Cruise was leaked to YouTube and then promptly removed because of threats from Scientology attorneys.

On Feb. 10, some 200 people participated in an Anonymous-organized demonstration against Scientology in downtown Clearwater. Similar protests were held in dozens of cities around the world.

A second round of protests by Anonymous are scheduled for this weekend, timed to coincide with Scientology’s annual celebration of founder L. Ron Hubbard's birthday on Thursday.

According to Web sites affiliated with Anonymous, members of the group plan to protest in more than 50 cities worldwide. In Clearwater, they plan to gather Friday evening outside Ruth Eckerd Hall, where Scientology will hold its annual gala celebrating Hubbard’s birthday.

A larger protest is planned Saturday in downtown Clearwater, where the church’s international religious headquarters are located.

On Web sites, the group implores members to protest peacefully and not to break any laws. No one was arrested at any of the protests on Feb. 10.

The petition seeks an injunction to stop Anonymous, it local leaders and supporters, from "committing any further acts of violence.'' It also seeks to prevent members from getting within 500 feet of Jentzsch or any of 12 Scientology buildings in downtown Clearwater.

Large Cat Sightings Investigated In Ireland

A large cat-like animal has been spotted roaming wild close to where sheep have been mauled.

Gardai are awaiting the results of laboratory tests on droppings found close to the dead livestock to determine the identity of the mystery killer.

Yesterday, they released a photograph of the creature, which was taken by a woman in the Ballylawn area of Manorcunningham, Co Donegal.

"It is taken from a distance, so it is impossible to be certain, but the woman who took the picture saw this animal up close in her garden and she knows it wasn't a dog," said Supt Vincent O'Brien.

He confirmed that gardai had met with the local ISPCA inspector and the county's wildlife officer as concerns began to grow about the animal.

"We have got dropping samples and they've been sent away for analysis, so we're not exactly sure what kind of animal we're dealing with. However, the sightings report that it was a large, black, cat-type animal such as a cougar, that moved extremely fast across the fields, and was noticed crawling on its belly," he said.

Description

He added that the latest mystery animal did not fit the description of another sighting in the same area a year ago.

"The one last year was brown and white. It was sighted a number of times and then it fizzled out.

"This one is described as black. We are asking people to be vigilant and anyone who sees it to report it to their local garda station ."

He confirmed the matter was now being treated "extremely seriously" by gardai and a full-scale search was under way to find the animal.

"We're not making any further comment at this stage and we don't want to alarm people in any way and create a panic," he said.

"We'd particularly appeal to any owner of exotic animals that may have escaped recently to contact us immediately as part of our inquiries."

The cougar or wild cat may have been dumped in Donegal by a circus crew or escaped from a zoo.

Last year, a major hunt got under way in the North for a black panther along the north Antrim coastline. But it was called off when it was decided the animal had disappeared into the wild.

The Unexplained: Will There Ever Be Enough Evidence?

From Paranormal Insight:

I keep hearing all these people out there saying there is no such thing as Ghosts or the Paranormal. You ever wonder why they say this. I strongly believe that there is more evidence to prove that the paranormal and afterlife does exists than there is to say it doesn’t. When you hear there is a scientific explanation for why things happen, I would like them to explain experiences that so many of us have. The touching we feel, The shadows we see. What I think is going on is these people who are so against believing have had something happen with them also.

Why wouldn’t you come forward if you have had an experience with the paranormal, Maybe help us find the reasons why, if there is any? There are so many claims of things that go on that are just plain out ridiculous and shouldn’t even be heard but we like to hear it or we wouldn’t listen. A case in point is that show, “A Haunting“, I am a strong Paranormal and Ghost Believer myself but that is one show that I just cannot seem to believe in. The flying of the plates out of the covers, The big scratches on peoples bodies. That would be something I would have to see to believe. I would probably need a new pair of shorts, but it would make me a believer.

Another thing that I find myself pondering on is the “being possessed”. To me I think that Hollywood pretty much had everyone thinking they were possessed or had evil spirits attached to them telling them what to do with The Exorcist. But these shows like A Haunting is pretty much making the real Ghost Investigators like Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson from TAPS, have to work harder in trying to prove their message and submitting what I have seen to be concrete evidence. So is it fair that these shows should be on TV to make a mockery of this unexplained phenomenon as ghosts? I dont know if it is reality but it is sure good entertainment, and for me a good laugh.

Videos: Kansas Woman Sat On Toilet For 2 Years!

Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years _ so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

She was reported in fair condition at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.

The case has been the buzz of Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," he said.

Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

Honey Drips From House Walls

The situation at the Stathatos house on Virginia Road is getting sticky. So many bees live in the walls of the stately Tudor home that honey drips out of the walls, discoloring the wallpaper in the dining room.

The bees had been good tenants, peacefully coexisting for years with the home's human residents, Helen and Jerry Stathatos.

But lately the house has become a hive of activity, with bees buzzing around an upstairs bedroom, said Dustin Mackey, a bee removal expert with Bee Specialist.

Mackey made a house call in late February to vacuum the busy insects from a window frame and seal the floor in the bedroom.

"You walk into the house and it smells sweet," Mackey said. "I felt like I was in a jar of honey."

Mackey said Jerry Stathatos said the bee problem had been going on for at least 20 years, but living in an apiary never bothered the family.

Calls Wednesday to Helen and Jerry Stathatos were not returned.

Mackey said Stathatos decided against removing the bees because it might require them to pull down several interior walls, where "thousands, maybe millions" of bees have taken up residence.

"They are making honey and we can't even get to it," Helen Stathatos told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune newspaper.

Just outside the front door, near a hole the bees use to enter the house, Mackey saw thousands of bees "just hanging in clumps."

"They've got the most beautiful garden you've ever seen, with flowers all around the house. It's the perfect environment for bees," said Mackey.

Great Gonerby UFO Reported Over Saskatchewan

<--Sketch from 2004 sighting

A UFO sighted over Great Gonerby repeatedly over the last four years has also been spotted in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Journal recently reported five sightings by Allan Spick, who provided a drawing of the mysterious flying object he has seen from his home at Belvoir Gardens.

Now an anonymous UFO spotter has got in touch to say he saw the very same object over Saskatoon in November or December 2005.

He said: "It was about 50 feet off the ground and not more than a city block away from me. I saw what appeared to be a craft that looked almost tear-shaped but sideways. I slowed down to a crawl and watched it hovering for about 10 seconds.

"I could only see the outline by its multi-coloured lights that surrounded the object."

After around 20 seconds the object banked to the right a flew slowly away.

He said: "I do feel that when I slowed down more that maybe they took notice of me observing this and that caused the object to start its sharp bank and then slowly disappear.

"It was all very weird to me."

NASA: What Struck Endeavour?

Endeavour astronauts inspected the space shuttle's heat shield Wednesday, while NASA puzzled over a mysterious piece of debris that may have struck the shuttle's nose just after launch.

Officials at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas refused to speculate on the origin or even the size of the debris captured on camera 10 seconds after launch. Nor are they sure if it struck the shuttle.

"It looks like it's not coming from the orbiter, and you can't really tell if it strikes the orbiter or not," flight director Mike Moses told reporters after viewing video of the debris.

"I can't even begin to speculate on what it could be," Moses said, stressing that specialists would be analyzing it in great detail.

"We should let the experts do the math. We got some good video that at least shows it in multiple frames so they'll be able to do a trajectory analysis to see where it came from," he said.

If the mysterious 10-second debris did hit the shuttle's nose, it was unlikely to have done much damage because the velocity of the vehicle was relatively slow at that point, he said.

The seven-man Endeavour crew spent a busy first day in space and appeared to be adjusting well to zero gravity, Moses said.

They used an orbital boom sensor system and hand-held cameras to collect images of the shuttle's underside, nose cap and leading wing edges.

The pictures will be painstaking compared with ones taken before launch to see if the thermal tiles that protect the shuttle from the heat of re-entry into Earth's atmosphere were damaged on ascent.

The procedure is now routine since a piece of debris damaged space shuttle Colombia causing it to burn up on its return to Earth in 2003, killing all seven astronauts on board and grounding the shuttle program for two years.

"By tomorrow night we should have a real good idea about the state of the orbiter," Moses said, adding that early assessments showed nothing of concern.

In addition to inspecting the heat shield the crew was preparing for rendezvous and docking at the space station, expected at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday (0325 GMT Thursday).

They also inspected spacesuits to be used during space walks and even had time to activate a scientific experiment on how viruses behave and potentially alter themselves in zero gravity, Moses said.

Endeavour soared into space early Tuesday carrying parts of a Japanese laboratory that is to become the largest and last research module of the International Space Station.

Endeavour will also deliver a piece of hardware from Canada -- a component for the robotic arm named Dextre, which is used for delicate tasks normally reserved for an astronaut on a space walk.

The 16-day mission is the longest at the ISS and will see members of the seven-man crew, which includes Japanese astronaut Takao Doi, venture out on five space walks, totalling about 30 hours of work.

The Beast of Blue Bell Hill Has Returned

The fabled Beast of Blue Bell Hill has reportedly been spotted at its old stomping ground - and this time it has friends.

Enthusiast Neil Arnold said a black leopard - also known as a panther - has been seen in Medway and Maidstone in the past few weeks, and the man behind Kent Big Cat Research claims exotic animals just like this have been at large in Kent for centuries.

Recent developments suggest big cats such as pumas, lynxes and black leopards may well be roaming the Kent countryside.

The latest sighting took place, at 9.40am on Saturday, February 23, at Rochester Cemetery on the Maidstone Road, by a man walking home.

Mr Arnold, said: "He glanced up into the cemetery and was astonished to see the animal. The cat was moving between the headstones.

"It was black in colour with a very long tail which touched the ground."

Since then, a husband and wife claim to have spotted the same kind of animal late at night in Eastcourt Lane, Gillingham. On one occasion the husband saw the cat leap over a seven foot fence.

The woman also reported seeing another huge cat a few nights later – but this time it was a fawny-brown colour. Mr Arnold said it could have been a puma.

The sightings come less than a fortnight after a fisherman allegedly saw a dark-grey "cat-like" animal while he was sitting beside a lake in Snodland earlier this month. According to Mr Arnold this is the second sighting of what he says could be a Jaguarundi in the area - a similar creature was seen near the lake last month.

The wild cat enthusiast says these are some of many sightings from the area, including backgardens near Rochester Castle, the Alexandra Hospital, Walderslade, and parts of rural Maidstone.

“Based on the sighting I have recorded, I think there are anything between three and seven panthers in this area," said Mr Arnold. "And they have been here for hundreds of years.”

The big cats that supposedly roam England’s countryside are thought to be descended from exotic pets released by royalty and travelling zoos several hundred years ago or linked to animals kept as pets in the 1960s and 1970s and released in the advent of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.

UFO / OVNI Spotted Over Argentina Military Base

Argentinean paranormalist and author Gustavo Fernandez writes: "On December 16, 2007, at the Fray Luis Beltran army base, located between the cities of Rosario and San Lorenzo in Santa Fe, Argentina, an army specialist took a photo of the tent which held the unit's communication gear. According to Juan Carlos Gauna, the photo [revealed the presence] of an "arrowhead" shaped object with apparent propulsion nozzles. One may suppose the presence of a secret military prototype, yet it is interesting to note that it was NOT seen in plain sight. While it could not be included in Argentina's "2008 UFO Wave", I doubt that the intelligence governing this phenomenon worries overmuch about our daily calendars. Its temporal proximity and the qualifications of the source make it worthy of notice."

History Channel's UFO Hunters Tackle Stephenville Sightings

Incidents involving UFOs have been reported throughout history, such incidents are the focus of the History Channel’s UFO Hunters.

You may have seen the show’s cast and crew around town over the last week, with their cameras rolling and focused on the skies above Erath County.

The series follows a group of experts as they study some of history’s most intriguing UFO accounts and the evidence surrounding the cases. The cases are scrutinized through scientific means in an attempt to uncover the actual facts. Incidents such as the widely discussed and documented 1947 occurrence in Roswell, NM have been subjected to the intense scrutiny of the UFO Hunters.

The UFO Hunters are Bill Birnes, Pat Uskert, Dr Ted Acworth and Jeff Tomlinson. The team is passionate about separating fact from fallacy when it comes to UFO occurrences and they have worked the last week to do just that in regards to the local phenomena.

Each of the four hunters brings a unique background and perspective to the show.

Bill Birnes if the publisher of UFO Magazine, home of one of the world’s largest collections of documentation of UFO incidents.

Pat Uskert, also from UFO Magazine, became intrigued with the UFO phenomena after he witnessed a strange metallic object floating over Venice, CA.

Dr. Ted Acworth, of MIT, is a mechanical engineer and researcher, who has worked for NASA. Acworth brings the discipline of hard science to the team.

Jeff Tomlinson is a scientific intern.

Each week, the program follows the group as they travel to the site of a well-known UFO incident to explore the event and uncover what really happened. Using history as their guide, the UFO Hunters examine evidence such as videotapes, audiotapes, witness interviews and files. They go on location and into the lab to study the case. They conduct interviews, reconstruct the events surrounding the sightings and investigate the events paying great attention to the details.

Their journey takes them across North America and Europe in search of the truth about the UFO sightings. Last week, the search brought the cast and crew of more than 30 individuals to Stephenville.

“The Stephenville investigation is different, unique,” said co-executive producer Al LaGarde. “Typically, we review historical cases and investigate the facts; we often uncover new information into those cases and investigate the incidents based on both historical facts and new evidence. This case is current, ongoing. It gives us an opportunity to explore the case from a current perspective.”

The local case began with eyewitness reports that came from an incident that occurred on Jan. 8, when four area residents described seeing a UFO around sunset in the Selden area.

Since the initial reports, many more have stepped forward to recount similar tales, including sightings of a massive, flying object with multiple lights hovering above the area and leaving at a speed in excess of 3,000 miles per hour.

With detailed witness interviews, video footage, photographs and scientific experimentation as their guides, the UFO Hunters are gaining great insight into the local events.

The goal is to determine what it is that residents saw. To get to the bottom of the story, the show’s crew and producers have relied heavily on the people of Erath County.

“The people here have been great. Tarleton has been a tremendous help, they have allowed us to use their facilities to conduct experiments and we hired five production assistants from the university,” Lagarde said. “Everywhere we have gone people have been helpful and hospitable in every way.”

The group is scheduled to leave today, taking the data they have gathered back with them to Los Angeles. The editing process will begin and the episode will be aired on the History Channel.

LaGarde said he does not know the exact date but that it should be only six or seven weeks until the episode is aired. He said an official press release would be sent to local media announcing the date.

Video: A Gnome at the Cemetery?

[Readers of Inexplicata over the years will remember the reports of strange imps, goblins or other diminutive creatures which, according to experts and some clergymen, appear to be more frequent in the days leading up to Holy Week--Ed.]

A group of teenagers allegedly recorded the apparition when they were chatting at a streetcorner in the early hours of the morning. Sighting causes fear among local residents.

"We were chatting about our latest fishing expedition. The time was 1:00 a.m. I began fillming them with my cellphone while they clowned around. Suddenly, I heard as if someone was tossing pebbles at us. I looked to one side and noticed that the bushes were moving," recalls Jose, thinking back to the strange evening.

"I thought it was a dog, but when I saw that imp-shaped figure appear, I became very frightened. I recorded it for a little while, then we all took off running," said the youth, who managed to capture the incident on his cellphone.

The strange event occurred in General Guemes, Salta Province. A group of youths had gathered at one of the last blocks of the San Isidro neighborhood, next to the local graveyard. Their animated exchange was interrupted by a strange sound. When they looked toward the bushes, the noticed that a strange figure was moving away with short hops, according to the El Tribuno newspaper.

"This is no joke. We are still afraid to walk past the place, just like the neighbors. One of my friends was so frigthened we had to take him to the hospital," stressed Jose.

Bigfoot Search Launched In East Texas

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the woods, East Texans prepare for another expedition to find Bigfoot in East Texas. A professional and well equipped group says it's ready to prove the mysterious hairy giant is roaming our neighborhoods.

"Actually, I found that there were a lot of sightings and things in the Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana error," said Bigfoot researcher Mike Hall. "Strange things happen." Several dots on a map represent Bigfoot sightings in East Texas since 2000. Mike Hall is assembling a research team to answer questions.

"What's going on here, what is this thing people are seeing," said Hall. Hall has been chasing sightings across East Texas, and has found numerous clues, footprints and evidence, but admits they must have more.

"We hope beyond hope that we come back with something tangible," said Hall. Hall's no stranger to the Sasquatch. He says he's seen it in January of 2005 in East Texas woods.

"Right in the middle of the road was about a 6" tall bi-pedal animal," said Hall. His focus is proving that a 7" 400 pound ape could be living in Texas right under our noses, so to speak.

"All this technology is out there and yet this thing has been able to elude us," said Hall. "We put our skeptical's on, but there is something out there what is it?." Hall's team is preparing to the Neches River where numerous sightings have occurred, and where he hopes his team can solve a mystery.

"One day, one day someone will come up with one of these guys and say here he is," said Hall.

Hall will take his eight member team on the research expedition the first week of May. They have not revealed the location of the search area to avoid people getting in their way.

Suspected Dead Couple Appear At Press Conference

A Melbourne doctor and his wife have arrived home from holiday to find homicide detectives about to hold a press conference into their suspected deaths.

Police and the media had gathered at the home of William "Roy" Ostell, 63 and his wife Heather, 58, amid growing fears for their safety after their daughter reported them missing.

So when they turned into the driveway on their Narre Warren property today in their "missing" 1975 Kombi, their daughter Angela, police and the press were stunned.

It turns out the Ostells had decided to go for a Labour Day long weekend holiday break at Lakes Entrance, arranging for their dog and ponies to be cared for by a neighbour. They told their other daughter Melanie about their plans but were unable to contact Angela.

"Where have you been?" Angela yelled as the Kombi pulled up, leaving her parents dumbfounded about all the fuss.

Mrs Ostell said she and her husband, a local GP, were sorry for all the trouble they had inadvertently caused.

"They pulled up the back deck looking for our bodies," she said.

"We had decided on Friday morning (to have a break) and we just let a couple of people know."

Police said the front door of the house was found open and Mrs Ostell said police could blame her husband for that.

"We just wanted to get out on the road and to get out of here," she said.

She said Angela had been upset by the whole episode.

"I'll have to make my peace with her," Mrs Ostell said.

Britney Spears' Stalker Sends Her Sex Toys

Britney Spears is being targeted by an obsessed fan who sends her packages containing sex toys and threatening notes, OK! Magazine reported.

The crazed fan started mailing letters to the train-wreck pop star about six weeks ago.

He then started sending packages containing sex toys, letters and photos of a person who may be himself.

"It quickly escalated to larger packages that now arrive two to three times a week - always to the same L.A. address, but never to one of Britney's homes," a source close to the case told the magazine.

Spears herself has never seen the packages and her security team is working with the FBI to identify the stalker.

The names of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are also scrawled on the outside of each package, the magazine said.

The Ripper Casebook: Open to the Public

'PC.97J. NEIL reports at 3.45.a[m] 31st inst, he found the dead body of a woman lying on her back with her clothes a little above her knees...' So begins a vivid account on lined notepaper, by a Superintendent J Keating, under the heading 'Metropolitan Police'. The ink seems as fresh as a morning newspaper. Yet it is dated 31 August, 1888.

This is one of the police reports filed just hours after Jack the Ripper claimed another victim in London's East End. It is one of numerous documents relating to the Victorian killer which, after more than a century in the archives, are to go on public display for the first time.

Handwritten accounts from the scenes of the crimes, detectives' case reports, coroners' inquiry records, witness statements, photographs and letters will form the centrepiece of a major exhibition, 'Jack the Ripper and the East End', at the Museum in Docklands, London. Visitors will not be spared graphic descriptions, such as 'her throat cut from ear to ear', in the retelling of the bloody and gruesome crimes.

'They are absolutely amazing,' said Julia Hoffbrand, curator of the exhibition. 'They were written on the day each woman was found, so as a step by step account you get a real sense of what happened. The documents bring home the fact that these are real people and real events. They are very moving.'

The files were first kept at Scotland Yard, then transferred to the National Archives in Kew, west London. But due to their fragile condition they could only be viewed on microfiche. 'It's a rare opportunity to see the actual documents in the original ink,' Hoffbrand said.

The police report of 31 August 1888 continues: Dr. Llewellyn, No.152 Whitechapel Ro[ad]... arrived quickly and pronounced life to be extinct, apparently but [a] few minutes, he directed her removed to the mortuary, stating he would make a further examination there, which was done on the ambulance. It has since been ascertained that the dress bears the marks of Lambeth Workhouse and deceased is supposed to have been an inmate of that house.'

Jack the Ripper is believed to have killed five prostitutes in or near Whitechapel in 10 weeks between August and November 1888. More than 170 names have been put forward as suspects including the Duke of Clarence, the artist Walter Sickert, who had a morbid obsession with the killings, Montague John Druitt, a barrister who took his own life just after the last murder, and Michael Ostrog, a Russian thief. Books, plays, films and musicals have mythologised the killer and every night tourists walk the same streets on a guided Jack the Ripper walk.

A letter purportedly from the Ripper to the police will also be on display. Dated 7 November 1888, the handwritten scrawl states: 'Dear Boss, I am writing you this while I am in bed with a sore throat but as soon as it is better I will set to work again on the 13th of this month and I think that my next Job will be to polish you off and as I am a member of the force I can soon settle accounts with you I will tear your liver out before you are dead and show it to you.' The letter, signed Jack the Ripper, has a crude drawing of a man, but remains one of many tantalising clues.

Among the documents are witness statements to coroners as well as contemporary press reports. At the inquest into the death of Catherine Eddowes, whose mutilated body was found in Mitre Square in Aldgate, her daughter Annie Phillips tells of her father's separation from her mother: 'He had no ill will to my knowledge against Deceased [Catherine Eddowes]. He left Deceased between 7 & 8 years ago entirely on account of her Drinking Habits.'

Like Eddowes, Mary Ann Nichols was found with her throat cut, in Buck's Row, Whitechapel. On her last evening alive, she is reported as having said: 'I'll soon get my "doss" money; see what a jolly bonnet I've got now.'

The exhibition, which opens on 15 May, will also feature maps and recordings from people who grew up in the slums of Whitechapel. Donald Rumbelow, a leading expert on the Ripper and co-author of Jack the Ripper: Scotland Yard Investigates, welcomed the exhibition. 'To see the documents out of the mounts will be quite something.'

Bad Karaoke Leads to Mass Murder

A gunman in Thailand shot-dead eight neighbours, including his brother-in-law, after tiring of their karaoke versions of popular songs, including John Denver’s Country Roads.

Weenus Chumkamnerd, 52, put his gun to the head of a respected female doctor and seven of her guests as they partied at her home in Songkhla Province, South Thailand.

"When I began shooting nobody pleaded for his life because they were all drunk," he said after his arrest.

He said he was so furious with their awful singing that he did not notice he had murdered his own brother-in-law.

"I warned these people about their noisy karaoke parties. I said if they carried on I would go down and shoot them. I had told them if I couldn’t talk sense into them I would come back and finish them off," he added.

Mr Chumkamnerd, who works as a rubber tapper, was arrested after going on the run after his killing spree in the townn of Hat Yai, near the Malaysian border.

The doctor who was hosting the party, Dr Suthathip Thammachart, 36, was the director of a local hospital who was due this month to get an award for her services to medicine.

One of the revellers survived by playing dead, convincing the gunman that he too had been killed.

When he realised he had shot his brother-in-law, Boontip Desaro, Mr Chumkamnerd said he was filled with remorse.

He got his son to take Boontip to hospital, but he was already dead.

A neighbour said that the karaoke group normally sang Thai pop and southern Thai ballads, but one particular western tune could be heard often - John Denver’s ‘Country Roads’.

Country Roads is a hugely popular song in south east Asia and the neighbour said the revellers had been singing it over and over again.

Mexico’s Roswell: The Chihuahua UFO Crash

Publishing their book “Mexico’s Roswell: The Chihuahua UFO Crash” was pretty exciting for authors Ruben Uriarte and Noe Torres. Promoting it in the U.S. and Mexico, they have continued to gather even more information about the mysterious 1974 midair collision of a small airplane and an unidentified flying object.

Things got more exciting still, however, when the authors were contacted by the History Channel to appear on an episode of “UFO Hunters.”

“Our hope while promoting the book had been to find more people connected to the case, hopefully an eyewitness or family members of the pilot or passengers (of the airplane),” said Noe Torres, a South Texas librarian and school teacher. “Now those chances are even greater.”

Torres and Uriarte will be at Hastings Books at 7 p.m. Sunday to make a presentation on the book’s amazing story, delving into the reported crash near the border between Chihuahua, Mexico, and Presidio, Texas, in Big Bend Country.

They say the story actually began in 1992, when what are believed to be U.S. government documents concerning the crash and an intense military recovery effort were leaked to international UFO research experts. Eventually published on the Internet, Uriarte and Torres were the first to investigate the information seriously.

“What was really eerie about it was the level of detail and military precision with which the report was written,” Torres said. “It mentions specific locations. Flight paths, military hardware and procedures, aircraft, etc. Its level of detail and accuracy stuck me as sounding highly plausible.”

The two traveled to the Chihuahuan village of Coyame, near the supposed crash site. Residents told stories of a ground-shaking explosion that summer night in ’74, a debris field, a burned-out pit and a mysterious deep man-made mine shaft at its center. And of how, afterward, Mexican officials warned them never to come near the area.

“They took us to the desert to see where the wreckage was,” Torres said. “The burned area is large enough you can see it on Google Earth.”

In their appearance on “UFO Hunters,” Uriarte and Torres revisited the Coyame site. Scientific tests of the metallic fragments showed an unknown substance; they and the shaft also had elevated levels of radiation.

Residents of the area told the authors that Mexican soldiers who first arrived on the scene to clear the wreckage became sick and later died. Soldiers from Fort Bliss in El Paso were said to have been dispatched to complete the operation.

Torres, a teacher and librarian, is a native of Edinburg, Texas. In 2005 he published “Ghost Leagues: A History of Minor League Baseball in South Texas” in 2005.

Uriarte is a 20-year member of the Mutual UFO Network and a graduate of California State University in Hayward, Calif.

Old Video: UFO / OVNI Landing in Canada

This video has been around awhile, but a discussion ensues each time it is posted online. Anyway, look at it and give us your opinion. Posted with video: Here we see a UFO on the ground in West Carlton, Canada. This is among the best and most irrefutable sightings in history. It is really amazing that the RCMP thought it was a helicopter. Almost all police forces all around the world have given amazing accounts of UFO sightings, and accurate reports, not the RCMP. Could someone please send pictures of helicopters to the RCMP. The RCMP look great on horseback, but they have not evolved yet to observing UFOs.

Iron Embedded Mammoth Tusks Result Of Meteor Explosion?

A giant meteor may have exploded over Alaska thousands of years ago, shooting out metal fragments like buckshot, some of which embedded in the tusks of woolly mammoths and the horns of bison. Simultaneously, a large chunk of the meteor hit Alaska south of Allakaket, sending up a dust cloud that blacked out the sun over the entire state and surrounding areas, killing most of the life in the area.

Such is the scenario envisioned by Rick Firestone, a staff scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. Firestone and his colleagues have found mammoth tusks and a bison skull with nickel-rich iron particles in them on one side, suggesting the metal fragments all came from the same direction.

Firestone's theory emerged when his colleague, Alan West of Dewey, Arizona, saw at a Phoenix gem and mineral show a mammoth tusk peppered with tiny bits of metal. Intrigued, West and Firestone looked at tusks owned by the same dealer in Calgary. By passing a magnet over mammoth tusks in Calgary, Firestone and West found seven mammoth tusks collected somewhere near the Yukon River and a bison skull from Siberia that had tiny iron fragments burned into them. The fragments also contained nickel.

"One in 1,000 tusks had this material in it," Firestone said.

Firestone also thinks he may have found the divot left by the ancient meteorite, an impact crater that is now occupied by a round body of water named Sithylemenkat Lake in the upper Kanuti River drainage.

"The creeks coming out of the lake are very rich in nickel," Firestone said, referring to a metal associated with meteorites. "And the shape is consistent with a crater from a meteorite that may have been a half a kilometer in diameter‹a pretty large thing."

A meteorite that big would have torched anything within a 100-mile radius and could have buried the mammoths farther away from the crater, preserving the tusks struck by metal fragments. Firestone said the dust kicked up by the meteor would have eliminated any mammoths that survived the meteor's hit.

"There was probably 10,000 years with no mammoths," he said, adding that other mammoths eventually migrated back into Alaska.

Dale Guthrie, one of Alaska's few experts on mammoths, said he found Firestone's theory interesting, but Alaska scientists who know about impact craters think he is probably off on his guess that Sithylemenkat Lake is the place where a giant meteorite struck about 35,000 years ago (the approximate age of the mammoth tusks). Scientists have confirmed only one impact crater in Alaska‹called Avak, near Barrow‹and have discovered only about 140 impact craters on the entire planet.

Buck Sharpton, an expert on impact craters and the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, said the lake would have to be much older than 35,000 years because it has no rim associated with more recent impact craters and doesn't look to him like an impact crater. He thinks the iron bits in the tusks could be cavities filled by "being immersed for millennia in porous sedimentary fill through which iron-rich water percolated."

As for Sithylemenkat Lake, Gordon Herreid didn't mention a possible meteorite impact when he wrote a 1969 geology report on the lake for the state (which ordered the investigation because of possible nickel deposits there). Jan Cannon wrote in the journal Science in 1977 that the lake looked to be the only visible impact crater in Alaska based on a study of Landsat satellite images. One year later, William Patton of the U.S. Geological Survey argued in Science that glaciers, rather than a meteorite, created the lake.

Arizona Hotel Retains Ghostly Guests

The Lee Hotel has accommodated countless people in its rooms in nearly a century of business, and if local legends are believed, many of those guests were of the ghostly kind.

Indeed, the downtown Yuma hotel has been an attraction for people making reservations for the purpose of trying to catch glimpses of ghostly manifestations, according to Debe Branning, author of the the book "Sleeping with Ghosts! A Ghost Hunter's Guide to Arizona's Haunted Hotels and Inns."

And now the "haunted" hotel at 390 S. Main St. has captured the attention of the Travel Channel, which, according to Lee Hotel owner Bill Sullivan, plans to feature it in an upcoming segment of its "Most Haunted" series. Continued...

Paranormalist Jim Callahan Challenges Criss Angel

Posted on Jim Callahan's website:

On October 31st Paranormalist Jim Callahan appeared on live national television (NBC) and exhibited a totally new and innovative entertainment experiment.

TV Magician Criss Angel was part of the production and attempted to devalue Callahan’s work.

Many believed Angel attacked out of jealousy what he could not explain.

That being Callahan’s ability to successfully perform a strictly controlled automatic writing experiment on live television drawing a connection between Raymond Hill, who died in 1980, and himself. In process of doing the above so he provided an accurate description of a chosen target in a sealed container.

Callahan guarantees this fact to the sum of $50.000.00. This guarantee was in effect during the show and NBC would not allow Callahan to mention it on air.

We believed now this was done to protect Angel and his plan to confront Callahan with a challenge of his own.

Angel had claimed that if Callahan performed an exhibition as he had planned he would ‘bust’ or expose him on live TV. He made statements of this type in interviews and a clip can even be found on NBC’s site.

However Angel did not make good on his promise. Instead Angel attempted to challenge Callahan with a different task after he successfully completed the linking experiment with Raymond Hill.

In essence Angel was attempting to change the subject.

*Callahan however did accept Angel’s challenge to divine the contents of two envelopes by notifying the producers of the show but was told they (the producers) could not confirm Angel had the one million in liquid assets to pay Callahan when he successfully completed the test.

*The producers also would not consent to have the envelopes held and opened by a neutral third party negating the possibility of Angel cheating.

And most importantly the footage of the event would not be owned by Callahan and he would not be compensated for the additional/extra demonstration.

To this day Angel has yet to respond to Callahan accepting the challenge and the request for proof of that he can immediately make payment on the dept he will incur when Callahan successfully completes the test.

If you look at it truthfully with a critical educated eye Criss Angel did not expose or ‘bust’ Callahan like he said he would.

Angel said he would and yet could not do it!

And if Angel really did expose Callahan why did he not take his $50,000.00 why does he hide from this question and the open challenge Jim made to debate him anytime any were.

Could it be that Criss is in no way up to a real challenge?

Is that the Dark Truth?

Rare White Killer Whale Discovered Near Aleutian Islands

A white killer whale—fin pictured here— was recently spotted in Alaska's Aleutian Islands, sending researchers and their ship's crew scrambling for cameras.

"I had heard about this whale, but we had never been able to find it," said Holly Fearnbach, a research biologist with the National Marine Mammal Laboratory in Seattle who photographed the rarity. "It was quite neat to find it."

The whale was spotted last month while scientists aboard the Oscar Dyson—a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) research ship—were conducting an acoustic survey of Pollock, a whitefish, near Steller sea lion haul-out sites.

"This is the first time we came across a white killer whale," agreed John Durban, a research biologist at NOAA's Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle.

Fearnbach said the white whale stood out.

"When you first looked at it, it was very white," she said Thursday.

While the whale's saddle area was white, other parts of its body had a subtle yellowish or brownish color, suggesting it was not a true albino, Durban said.

The whale was spotted about two miles (three kilometers) off Kanaga Volcano on February 23. (See map of Alaska.)

It appeared to be a healthy, adult male about 25 to 30 feet (7 to 9 meters) long and weighing as much as 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms).

Lesbian Vampires Get Life Sentences For Sex Murder

A lesbian member of a blood-drinking vampire cult and her lover have been sentenced to life in prison for the sexually-motivated murder of their housemate.

Jessica Stasinowsky, 21, and Valerie Parashumti, 19, pleaded guilty to bludgeoning 16-year-old Stacey Mitchell to death with a concrete block in 2006 because she was "annoying", the Australian Associated Press reported.

Judge Peter Blaxell said the murder, in Perth, Western Australia, was "sexually perverse" and "evil", after the court was told the two lesbian lovers became aroused as they battered the teenage girl and then kissed while standing over her body as she lay dying.

"You have each had more than a year in custody to reflect upon the evilness of your crime, yet you still lack remorse and obviously place no value on the sanctity of human life," Mr Blaxell said in handing down the life sentences.

"There is also the added problem that you each enjoy being sexually aroused by the infliction of violence," he said.

When Stacey moved into a house the lovers were sharing, Stasinowsky immediately hated her because she thought the teenager was flirting with her lover, the court heard.

Parashumti felt the need to prove that Stacey meant nothing to her, so she and Stasinowsky decided to kill her.

On the day of the murder, the trio drank whiskey in the kitchen and Stacey took tablets which made her drowsy.

Parashumti crept up behind Stacey and started hitting her on the head with a concrete slab, while Stasinowsky took off a dog chain belt and began to strangle her.

Stacey took at least 45 minutes to die, but Stasinowsky later told a prison officer she wished it had lasted longer.

"Even more appalling are your admissions to the effect that at the time of the murder you were each sexually excited by the violence of the event," said Judge Blaxell.

The killers made a mobile phone video of the murder scene, laughing and mocking their victim, and then dumped her body upside down in a garbage bin in a back shed.

A psychologist found Parashumti, who drank blood as part of a vampire subculture, had very strong sexual sadistic tendencies and was sexually aroused by physical torture and violence.

Alien Contact: Is It Imminent?

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the recent discovery of Earth-like planets outside our solar system and the launch of a major NASA mission in 2009 is bringing extra-terrestrial contact a dramatic step closer.

"We really believe that in the next 20 years or so, we are going to learn a great deal more about life beyond Earth and very likely we will have detected life and perhaps even intelligent life elsewhere in the galaxy,'' said American astrophysicist Dr Frank Drake, who founded the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence project (SETI) in 1961.

According to SETI senior astronomer Dr Seth Shostak, there are 200 billion stars just in our galaxy and at least half of them probably have planets orbiting them, which makes it 100 billion planetary systems with probably five planets in each system.

"That's 500 billion planets out there - and bear in mind there are 100 billion other galaxies," said Shostak.

"To think this (the Earth) is the only place where anything interesting is happening, you have got to be really audacious to take that point of view,'' he added.

Next year, NASA will launch its Kepler space telescope, which will constantly scan the same 100,000 stars over its entire four-year mission to discover Earth-sized planets in the habitable zones around suns.

SETI will then focus its deep-space listening equipment on those solar systems.

Die Somewhere Else

The mayor of a village in southwest France has threatened residents with severe punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the overcrowded cemetery to bury them.

In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish."

It added: "Offenders will be severely punished."

The mayor said he was forced to take drastic action after an administrative court in the nearby town of Pau ruled in January that the acquisition of adjoining private land to extend the cemetery would not be justified.

Lalanne, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Wednesday and is standing for election to a seventh term in this month's local elections, said he was sorry that there had not been a positive outcome to the dilemma.

"It may be a laughing matter for some, but not for me," he said.

Ocala Comedy Club Has Ghostly Resident

You would expect a ghost to hang out in a club dedicated to scaring customers, not to making them laugh. But that's what Jokeboy's Comedy Club in downtown Ocala has on its hands, according to a paranormal specialist.

"I immediately felt an energy, a presence, when I walked into the building," said Rick Hayes, a University of Florida graduate who serves as a paranormal communicator for Life's Gift Inc. "He is connected with the building and very protective of it."

Those protective measures caught club owners Myra Popp and Brian Walters off guard. Popp said she would turn out the lights as she locked up the club, but on a regular basis the lights would be on when she returned the next morning.

She said she also noticed a breath on the back of her neck when no one was around, and a feeling she was always being watched.

"It was really spooky, but not scary spooky," Popp said. "You'd hear someone walking upstairs, or someone walk past you, but there wouldn't be anyone there."

A GHOSTLY HABITAT

The black-painted building at 18 S.W. Broadway St. is two doors down from the new Starbucks and next door to Mango's. The shell of the structure preserves the masonry vernacular style it had when built in 1906. Popp left the east wall inside as unfinished brick, but painted the rest of the building in shades of brown and purple. Black curtains cover windows, keeping out daylight.

The attic, which used to be a complete second story, is filled with dust, cobwebs and exposed steel pipes. Piles of rubble from tenants past fill the attic, where the ghost is said to hang out. There was no hooing or howling Tuesday morning, but the lights were on.

"He likes tampering with the lights," Popp said. "He leaves them on for protection."

WHO IS HE?

The ghost goes by the name of Linus, Hayes said.

Hayes, a friend of Popp's family, stopped by the club one evening after a seminar at Central Florida Community College.

"We kept having these weird things happen and we thought we should bring someone in," Popp said.

Hayes immediately made his way to the attic, where he identified the spirit.

"He's not tall - maybe 5'5" or so," Hayes said. "He has a round face and is a little stocky, definitely middle-aged. He is very respectful, though. He stays up in the attic because he doesn't want to interfere with business."

But Linus has some suggestions for the club owners, Hayes said.

"He's a little upset because there aren't children around anymore," Hayes said about Linus, who he envisioned wearing a white apron. "He is really concerned about the building, like he had good business memories there, and he doesn't want it to be torn down."

A 1920s VISITOR

Hayes said Linus may come from the 1920s era. After being built as a tennis racket store by J.W. Alexander, the property became Ocala Market and Meats in 1921. According to the Historic Ocala Preservation Society, there was a soda fountain in the building until it became the Marion Liquor Store in 1940.

If there is a ghost that looks over the building, this is the first HOPS President Suzanne Thomas has heard about it.

"We don't really have any ghost stories downtown," she said. "The noises could be the wood floors extending when the weather changes. It could be mice. It is a great story though, and it may bring people in."

Popp and Walters say they aren't looking for extra publicity, nor are they inventing the story. They're content to live with their new roommate.

"He protects the place, so I like him hanging around," Popp said. "Plus, I think he likes me."

Aussie Panther Declared Pest, Concern Increasing

Sightings of a large black cat in the Hawkesbury and surrounding areas should be taken more seriously, and the animal declared a pest by the State Government, according to retired magistrate and Moss Vale Rural Lands Protection Board director Ian McDougall.

Mr McDougall, a Board director for Kenthurst, said the continuing presence of a large black cat-like animal should be of great concern to the Minister for Primary Industries, Ian MacDonald.

“I want him to declare the animal as a pest so we could then have mandatory reporting,” he said. “Then people wouldn’t feel they were nutters if they reported their sighting.

“It’s important to me. I believe in due course these animals are going to take a child.”

His comments come on the back of several fresh sightings in the Kenthurst area.

Mr McDougall said the large volume of sightings collected by Grose Vale resident Chris Coffey and local big cat researchers could not be ignored.

“What these people are seeing and describing to me is all the same thing – a large black animal, feline in shape, and its got powerful limbs and what most of them describe as jet black fur and a tail that’s about 1m long and 2-3 inches thick with a boomerang curve at the end of it,” he told The Gazette this week.

“The interesting thing about this group, the people I’ve spoken to, is they’re from all walks of life, they’re not delusional.

“It’s obvious there’s more than one of these creatures and they seem to be tracking along the creeks.

“If it’s not a panther it’s something that looks like a panther.”

The Board recently wrote to the Minister about the big cat issue, but stopped short of demanding that it be declared a pest species.

Mr McDougall – who made it clear he was speaking independently of the Board, not for it – said he favoured a more direct approach.

“I don’t want it shot,” he said. “If one of them can be trapped so we can find out what it is, that’d be great.

“But until someone drags a carcass and dumps it on the doorstep of the DPI, nothing much is going to happen.

“It’s already scratched a young kid in Kenthurst. Somebody has to do something.

“That’s my responsibility to the people who elected me.”

Researcher: Moses' Mt. Sinai Experience Drug Induced

"And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the horn, and the mountain smoking." Thus the book of Exodus describes the impressive moment of the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai.

The "perceiving of the voices" has been interpreted endlessly since these words were first written. When Professor Benny Shanon, professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, reads the verse, he recalls a powerful hallucinatory experience he had when he visited the Amazon and drank a potion made from a plant called ayahuasca.

"One of the things that happens when you drink the potion is a visual experience created via sounds," he says.

Shanon presents a provocative theory in an article published this week in the philosophy journal Time and Mind. The religious ceremonies of the Israelites included the use of psychotropic materials that can found in the Negev and Sinai, he says. "I have no direct proof of this interpretation," and such proof cannot be expected, he says. However, "it seems logical that something was altered in people's consciousness. There are other stories in the Bible that mention the use of plants: for example, the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden."

Shanon, former head of the Hebrew University psychology department, said his first experience with ayahuasca was in 1991 when he was invited to a religious ceremony in the northern Amazon in 1991 in Brazil. "I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations," he says. Since that time, he has used it hundreds of times, and has published a book about the plant.

"Hypotheses have been around for 20 years connecting the beginning of religions with psychoactive materials," Shanon says. He believes the Israelites used two plants in Sinai and the Negev: one of them is wild rue, a hallucinogen used by the Bedoin to this day. However this plant is not identified with any plant mentioned in the Bible.

The acacia tree also has psychedelic properties, Shanon says, which the Israelites could have used. The acacia is mentioned frequently in the Bible, and was the type of wood of which the Ark of the Covenant was made. According to Shanon, he drank a potion prepared from a species of acacia while he was in South America, which caused similar experiences to those produced by the ayahuasca.

Shanon also sees signs of a hallucinogenic vision in the story of the burning bush.

"Moses 'looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed,'" Shanon quotes from Exodus 3:2. Time passes differently when under the influence of the plant, he notes. "That's why Moses thought the bush was not consumed. It should have been burned in the time he thought had passed. And in that time, he heard God speaking to him."

"But not everyone who uses a plant like this brings the Torah," Shanon concedes. "For that, you have to be Moses."

If the Breasts Don't Fit, You Must Acquit

Serena Kozakura, a Japanese pin-up model, has probably had her way numerous times based on the size of her breasts, but this has to be the first time they have ever helped her overturn a court ruling.

Serena, 38 years old, was charged and found guilty of breaking into a man’s apartment by kicking in a hole in his door and crawling through because he was with another woman.

The bikini model was cleared of all charges after the defense council help up a plate showing the size of the hole that Serena was accused of kicking in. It was clear that the hole in the door was not large enough for the 44-inch bust model to squeeze through.

“I used to hate my body so much, but it was my breasts that won in court”, Serena said.

Judge Kunio Harad of the Tokyo High Court threw out the guilty verdict, saying there was reasonable doubt over the man’s story.

Gettysburg Paranormal Summit Cancelled

The ghost-hunting summit that was expected to attract more than 500 paranormal investigators to Gettysburg in June has been cancelled.

The Gettysburg National Military Park's policy against organized paranormal investigations on the battlefield is the main reason for the cancellation of the G4 Summit, organizer Kerry Eble-Keller said.

"It was just not what it could be," Eble-Keller said Tuesday.

Had things gone as planned, it would have been the first year for the event. As many as 540 people were registered to attend, he said.

Efforts to find homes and businesses in the area open to paranormal investigation were met with limited success, and without the battlefield as an option, "we realized we were just going to disappoint a lot of people," Eble-Keller said.

Park spokeswoman Katie Lawhon has said the park's policy against ghost hunting stems from a broader policy of only allowing organized activities on the battlefield that support the mission of the park. Individuals can, however, conduct investigations if they do not disrupt other visitors or damage park resources.

"We've tried to be very clear about our position on commercial ghost hunting and paranormal activities and also large-scale events in the park," Lawhon said Tuesday. "It all comes down to our mission."

That mission is "to preserve and protect the resources associated with the Battle of Gettysburg and the Soldiers National Cemetery, and to provide the understanding of the events that occurred here, within the context of American history."

Activities consistent with that mission can be granted special-access permits, but events like the G4 Summit do not qualify, Lawhon said.

"Our focus continues to be talking about the history of the Battle of Gettysburg and the soldiers who sacrificed their lives here," she said. "We're going to continue to spend our time on that."

Before he learned of the park's policy, Eble-Keller said he began organizing and publicizing the event through MySpace.com.

Eble-Keller has said the ghost hunters wanted to conduct paranormal investigations on some of the deadliest spots of the Gettysburg Battlefield, including Devil's Den, Little Round Top and the field of Pickett's Charge.

When that fell through, effort went into finding other places in the Gettysburg and Hanover area open to paranormal investigation.

But only about a dozen homes and businesses volunteered - far fewer than what would be needed to occupy more than 500 ghost hunters, Eble-Keller said.

"We came up way, way short," he said.

Besides, the battlefield is the main draw for ghost hunters, he added.

"That's the main reason they wanted to come to Gettysburg," Eble-Keller said.

E-mails went out Monday informing would-be investigators of the cancellation.

Whether some people will still show up is unknown.

"A lot of people made motel reservations," Eble-Keller said. "It's up to them if they still want to come on their own."

Most reactions so far have been ones of disappointment, he said.

"Other people say that they feel sorry for us because we put so much hard work into it," Eble-Keller said. "I have more sympathy, I think, than anger."

Thought Extinct, Rare Gray Wolf Reappears in Western Massachusetts

When more than a dozen lambs and sheep were slaughtered on a Shelburne farm last fall, wildlife officials suspected either a wolf that had escaped from captivity or a rogue mutt on a hungry rampage.

But after the culprit animal was killed and examined, they found themselves with a bigger mystery: How did a wild eastern gray wolf, an endangered species absent from the state for more than a century, find its way to western Massachusetts?

Thomas J. Healy, head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Northeast regional office, said Tuesday recent DNA tests at the agency's Oregon labs confirmed it is the first gray wolf found in New England since a 1993 case in upstate Maine.

The discovery of the 85-pound male wolf may help solidify experts' theories that the endangered species has been migrating south from Canada and repopulating rural parts of New England.

This wolf, though, was found farther south than any other reported spottings, and nothing indicates it had escaped or been set free by someone keeping it as a pet, authorities said. Continued...

Steven Spielberg to Launch Paranormal / Extraterrestrial Social Network

Hollywood super producer Steven Spielberg is preparing to launch a new social network, we’ve heard from multiple sources. The focus will be on users who’ve had or who are interested in sharing paranormal and extraterrestrial experiences. The new social network may also have original video content investigating alleged ghost and UFO stories.

Spielberg has always had a love for ghost and UFO stories. His movies include Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Poltergeist (1982), E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Casper (1995), Men in Black (1997), The Haunting (1999), War of the Worlds (2005) and the upcoming Interstellar (2009). His first movie, at 16, was a 140-minute science fiction adventure called Firelight (which later inspired Close Encounters). Add to those titles a score of other sci-fi movies.

Spielberg has apparently had at least one paranormal experience himself. There are stories of him staying in a hotel called Excelsior House and being so frightened by ghosts that he fled the room and moved 20 miles away. We’ve also heard anecdotes about Spielberg seeing the ghost of a dead relative repeatedly as a child. Whether based in reality or the product of an exceptional imagination, these experiences may have had an impact on his life’s work and this upcoming social network.

The project may have originally been associated with Yahoo but the project was killed off before launch. But if our sources are right, the idea has lived on and a team in Los Angeles is working to launch it in the next few months.

UK Ministry of Defense Set to Release UFO Files

Hundreds of documented sightings of UFOs across the UK will be released by the MoD to the National Archive in the coming weeks.

Detailed accounts of sightings in the Bonnybridge area are expected to be among the files.

The Stirlingshire town became famous in the 1990s after dozens of locals reported objects in the sky.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said the secret files date back more than 10 years.

He said: "The files contain information about UFO sightings by members of the public and include photographs that people have taken or drawings they have done.

"There is no scientific data included in the files just the public reports which may also include a comment from nearby RAF bases saying whether there was flight activity when the sightings took place."

Earlier files released by the MoD have concluded that UFO sightings could be attributed to natural phenomena in the atmosphere.

'Ongoing issue'

Bonnybridge councillor Billy Buchanan, who said he had seen UFOs on many occasions, said the release of the files was good news.

He said: "The more information that comes out about the sightings the more it gives credibility to all those, including myself, who have been ridiculed by speaking out.

"On a number of occasions I have seen something that cannot be rationally defined.

"It's an ongoing issue for Bonnybridge with many of the area's elderly people getting concerned when they cannot explain something they've seen in the sky."

Recent South American UFO Sightings

Argentina: The Sierra de los Padres "Phantom"

Luis Burgos writes: "Silvia Simondini of the VISION OVNI organization has sent us another curious daylight photograph of a UFO taken at Sierra de los Padres, Buenos Aires Province by collaborators of her organization, who have managed to take excellent photos of these objects over the area in recent times.

"According to Jorge Luis Figueiras, a FAO image specialist, [the photos] show a solid object with a protuberance in its lower section, which has been noticed in other cases. From another angle we can see the object with its typical "hat-shaped" UFO configuration, in a rotated position. UFOs are visiting these latitudes again while the 2008 saucer wave continues in full swing."

Bolivia: La Paz

Photo taken by Maria Griselda, a member of the Ciufos-LaPampa group. The object visible over the colonial-era palace was not visible at the time that the photo was taken. Another example of a "chance UFO"?

Peru: Macchu-Picchu

Raul Oscar Chaves writes: "The purpose of the first photo was to capture the lovely landscape formed by the shadowy mountains against a cloudy background. Upon downloading the photo, the presence of a possible sphere was noticed. There was a marked contrast in color between [the object] and the landscape, which was nearly in shadow.

"In the second, the idea was to place the presence of toursits on the mountain crest within the frame, represented by a plant decorated with a flower. The notorious presence of an object in the image's background was subsequently detected.

"These photos were taken by members of CIUFOS employing a 6 MP Kodak Easyshare digital camera."

The Philadelphia Experiment Meets Star Trek

Naval warships might look like all-powerful vessels but they are also highly vulnerable to being spotted by the enemy. That fear of being detected has led the military to develop new stealth technologies that allow ships to be virtually invisible to the human eye, to dodge roaming radars, put heat-seeking missiles off the scent, disguise their own sound vibrations and even reduce the way they distort the Earth’s magnetic field, as senior lecture in remote sensing and sensors technology at Britannia Royal Navy College, Chris Lavers, explains in March’s Physics World.

Wars throughout the twentieth century prompted advances in stealth technologies. Some of the earliest but most significant strides towards invisibility involved covering ships with flamboyant cubist patterns – a technique known as “dazzle painting”. During the Second World War, the US military even worked out a way of using lights to make the brightness of a ship match that of the background sea.

When British physicist Robert Watson Watt was charged with designing a ‘death ray’ to destroy entire towns and cities during the Second World War, he calculated it impossible. He did conclude however that radio waves could be used to detect ships and aircrafts too far way to be seen by the naked eye.

Radar was born. For ships to dodge radar, both a ship’s geometry and a ship’s coating have to be considered. Radars are particularly receptive to right angles, which is why modern battleships are often peculiarly shaped. Special paint and foam-coating have also been used to cover ships, which convert radio-waves into heat and stop radio waves being reflected, rendering the signals useless.

The “stealthiest” ship that currently exists is Sweden’s Visby Corvette. Apart from being painted in grey dazzle camouflage and made of low-radar reflectivity materials, it also does not use propellers, which are the noisiest part of a ship. The vessel also has the lowest “magnetic signature” of any current warship.

But the next generation of warships could be truly invisible by
exploiting “metamaterials” – artificially engineered structures first dreamt up by physicist John Pendry at Imperial College, London. Metamaterials are tailored to have specific electromagnetic properties not found in nature. In particular, they can bend light around an object, making it appear to an observer as though the waves have passed through empty space.

About the research, Chris Lavers writes, “If optical and radar metamaterials could be developed, they might provide a way to make a ship invisible to both human observers and radar systems, although the challenges of building a cloak big enough to hide an entire ship are huge.”

UFOs Possibly Related to South Florida Power Outage

While appearing live on an internet radio program on Monday, February 25, 2008, UFO Researcher Dick Criswell took several live reports about UFO sightings. Some were from Eastern Canada and others from the area of the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Generating Plant near Homestead, Florida. The Florida sightings involved both cylindrical and triangular shaped UFOs. Earlier today, Tuesday, February 26, 2008, we received more reports of triangular shaped UFOs near Homestead and the nuclear power plant operated by Florida Power and Light.

Just after receiving the additional reports of UFO sightings from the Homestead area, more reports came in from areas all along the East Coast of Florida. Shortly after that, the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Generating automatically shut down leaving millions of South Florida residents without power. Based on the reports we received and the fact that UFOs have been directly and indirectly connected to other power outages and failures throughout the years, we believe that the Florida outage was caused by the presence of UFOs.

Unknown Beast Prowling the Arab Emirates

A woman collecting wood near mountains in Fujeirah said she was nearly scared to death after being confronted by a lion. The Emirati was with two female helpers collecting woods to burn at their home when she saw the animal staring at the three while perched on rocks ahead of them.

She said: “Suddenly I saw the animal just standing there. We were terrified and rushed to hide from it behind rocks fearing it would attack us. I was so scared and thought it would kill us. After a few minutes the animal disappeared and we could no longer see it. I know it was a lion as I can recognise them from other animals.”
Police were immediately alerted to the area and conducted a search for the animal although no trace was found. A spokesman for Fujeirah Police said: “We moved patrols into the area and although we have not found the animal we are continuing to scan the area.”

According to reports last week, one farmer lost 70 sheep in a frenzied attack to an unknown predator in an area close to the reported lion sighting.

The farmer arrived at his field near Badiya last Wednesday morning after being alerted by a farm worker to find the mutilated remains of his flock scattered around the field.

The sheep were worth dhs35,000, he told police. The man was quoted in the Arabic press as saying there were rumours circulating of a resident bringing a juvenile lion into the area and then losing it. The Head of Dubai Zoo, Riza Khan, told 7DAYS that the woman may have seen a large wild cat that lives in Fujeirah and Ras Al Khaimah, but it was unlikely to be a lion as the environment is not suitable for them to live there.

The UAE is no stranger to wild animals appearing in strange places as last year a female juvenile cheetah was found wandering in Sharjah near Tasjeel Auto City. The animal, believed to be an escaped pet, was trapped and taken to safety. A large crocodile was found by a man in his front garden in Ajman after returning from his local mosque while a smaller croc was also spotted walking along the Al Wasl Road in Dubai before it was beaten to death.

All were believed to be pets that have escaped from homes or gardens.

Stephenville UFO: Credible Witness Steps Forward

Mike Zimmerman, 62, retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety after 25 years but not before he was on Protective Detail for five Texas Governors.

Zimmerman was assigned to protect Governors Briscoe, Clements, White, Richards and Bush for a period spanning 19 years.

"Clements was governor twice," he said.

To date, Zimmerman may be the most credible witness to come forward to report what Erath County residents have been coming forward in droves to report since January 8 -- another unidentified flying object.

He said it was 6:05 a.m. on January 31 when he awoke from a peaceful slumber for a Mother Nature call. As he was returning to bed, something caught his eye through the bedroom window of his home located just past the city limits on U.S. Highway 281 South in Stephenville, Texas.

"I saw three bright lights," Zimmerman said. "Two white lights were grouped closer together and higher and the third one was closer to the horizon. That one was a was a reddish orange color."

Zimmerman shared a sketch and notes he had jotted down.

But, there is more to this story…

The two white lights also were shooting out beams of white light in a pulsating strobe light effect. The reddish orange light closer to the horizon did not have beams shooting from it.

"At first I thought it might be three helicopters with really bright search lights until I noticed the beams of white lights shooting out to the side of the bright lights," Zimmerman said.

He said he awoke his fiancée to make sure he was seeing what he thought he was seeing. The couple watched for approximately three minutes he said.

"What I saw is completely different from what Lee Roy (Gaitan) saw," Zimmerman said. "The beams from the side weren't as obvious as the bright big lights and they were just real quick. The whole beam would just shoot out there and just disappear. If anyone had taken a picture with a timed exposure they would have caught all of them (shooting beams) at one time. It was strange. I have never seen anything like this before at all."

Zimmerman said the sun was rising and he's not sure how the lights disappeared. He said he didn't know if they became less obvious because of the sun's light or if they just left.

"I could have turned away for a minute and they left," Zimmerman said. "I'm not sure what happened, but I remembered looking and they just weren't there anymore."

Zimmerman said his home faces the northwest and his bedroom is on the back of the structure.

"I got out my compass and it indicated 115 degrees," Zimmerman said. "So the objects would have been more to the east."

Zimmerman said he had talked with Gaitan on January 9 so he was aware of the object Gaitan and his son had viewed on the evening of January 8.

When asked if he was able to ascertain if the objects appeared to be under intelligent control, he said he could not say because he didn't see them move.

"I hope it's military," Zimmerman said. "I know they've got things. I could go either way (opinion of military or alien) but it was out of the ordinary and I have never seen anything like it before."

Zimmerman said as he was watching the shooting beams he at first wondered if something could be going on at Fort Hood.

"That's the first thought I had, but that's a long way off and it appeared to be closer than that," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman estimated that with a dime held out with his arm fully extended, the objects would have been slightly larger than the dime.

He is currently employed as an officer with the Tarleton State University Police and he said he has not had another sighting, but openly confessed, "I pay more attention now and I'm watching for it."

When asked why he waited so long to come forward, he looked thoughtful and then he said, "It was something I had to think about and it didn't seem the same as what Lee Roy (Gaitan) saw."

The Stephenville UFO saga continues with Zimmerman being the third officer to come forward after Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan and Sheriff's Deputy Jim Clifton.

Canadian Researchers Discover HIV Blocking Gene

A team of researchers at the University of Alberta has discovered a gene that is able to block HIV, and in turn prevent the onset of AIDS.

Stephen Barr, a molecular virologist in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, says his team has identified a gene called TRIM22 that can block HIV infection in a cell culture by preventing the assembly of the virus.

"When we put this gene in cells, it prevents the assembly of the HIV virus," said Barr, a postdoctoral fellow. "This means the virus cannot get out of the cells to infect other cells, thereby blocking the spread of the virus."

Barr and his team also prevented cells from turning on TRIM22 - provoking an interesting phenomenon: the normal response of interferon, a protein that co-ordinates attacks against viral infections, became useless at blocking HIV infection.

"This means that TRIM22 is an essential part of our body's ability to fight off HIV. The results are very exciting because they show that our bodies have a gene that is capable of stopping the spread of HIV."

One of the greatest challenges in battling HIV is the virus' ability to mutate and evade medications. Antiretroviral drugs introduced during the late 1990s interfere with HIV's ability to produce new copies of itself - and even they are beneficial, the drugs are unable to eradicate the virus. Barr and his team have discovered a gene that could potentially do the job naturally.

"There are always newly emerging drug-resistant strains of HIV so the push has been to develop more natural means of blocking the virus. The discovery of this gene, which is natural in our cells, might provide a different avenue," said Barr. "The gene prevents the assembly of the virus so in the future the idea would be to develop drugs or vaccines that can mimic the effects of this gene."

"We are currently trying to figure out why this gene does not work in people infected with HIV and if there is a way to turn this gene on in those individuals," he added. "We hope that our research will lead to the design of new drugs, or vaccines that can halt the person-to-person transmission of HIV and the spread of the virus in the body, thereby blocking the onset of AIDS."

The researchers are now investigating the gene's ability to battle other viruses.

Barr's research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research. The findings are published in the Public Library of Science Pathogens.

Identify the Unknown Cryptid!

The following was posted with this video:
Professor Sugob,
Here are the two videos you asked for. As per our conversation, I can be reached at home until 4:30PM daily and then I can be reached at my cellphone number.
Answers to your additional questions: 1. Yes, the skeletal structure is in tact and the bones & joints can clearly be seen under the skin. 2. The pores of the skin are quite small but I can see them with a magnifying glass. 3. The toes do have toenails but I don't see any nails on the fingers. 4. Yes, that is hair on the legs and arms. It's hard to photograph with my camera. 5. Yes, it does have an odor and it is very pronounced! The smell is hard to describe but I can say it's very unpleasant. 6. About a tissue scrape, yes, as long as it is not destructive to the animal / thing.
Thank you again for your (and Professor Mahs') help on this. I look forward to your next reply.

Arizona Man Uses Dead Wife As A Coffee Table

Due to the great pain he suffered due to his wife's death, 32 year old Jeff Green did something totally out of character for a normal and sane person. He said, "I could no longer take the pain that my wife's death caused me and I brought her back home." This is where Jeff's story takes a twisted turn. His wife, Lucy, was born with a heart condition that cut her life at the young age of 29. Lucy's last words to Jeff were, "We will meet again in heaven." These words served of no consolation to Jeff's despair.

At the funeral, in an act of desperation, Jeff decided that he would not let Lucy leave him. "I called the cemetary caretaker and explained my feelings. I spoke with the authorities and got special permission to take my wife home with me. They thought it was strange, but I was allowed to take her with me. I'd rather have her at home than seven feet under ground. Lucy had a great sense of humor and I'm sure she would appreciate being my coffee table." Jeff ordered a special glass casing that eliminates the decomposition of a dead body. "It cost me about $6,000.00, but it was worth it."

Some of his friends and relatives, filled with fear, stop visiting Jeff. His true friends respected his decision and continue visiting him. Some even comment that it is a nice piece of furniture.

Amazing UFO Video

Here's the information posted with the video:

Lake Erie UFO: A Closer Examination

What is depicted in the picture above?
Is it two jets several miles apart from each other?
Or two police cars several yards apart from each other?
Or is it what each of us want it to be?

UFO NEWS - On February 6th we posted Michael Lee Hill's UFO video captured on August 18th, 2006 on the shores of Lake Erie. Six days later it has generated a heated debate in the post's comments.

Many skeptics believe the lights pictured above are two distant jets coming at us in a landing pattern - appearing to hover. Other skeptics say these are two police cars driving across a hill at night - on parallel roads with distance forcing the perspective.

We don't think so.

1) Michael Lee Hill tells us he shot this in Eastlake, Ohio. In this topo map of the area you will see no hills near or across the shoreline.

2) If these aircraft are flying towards Eastlake then we can only find two destinations, Lost Nation Municipal Airport and Cuyahoga County Airport. Neither of these airports look the part for what would be obviously BIG planes on approach.

3) If these aircraft were coming in to Cleveland Airport they would be traveling from right to left.

4) In the frame grab above shouldn't there be an appreciable size difference between two aircraft of this size, miles apart — even with the alleged mirage affect?

UFO NEWS believes these two 'things' are flying about 20 feet apart from each other.

If anyone would like to further debunk this sighting I believe we must begin with these new ideas. - UFO NEWS

This footage is from the FOX News UFO segment 2/3/07. They cut out the good parts so I thought you might want to see the whole clip.

Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside UFO Reported

The truth may well be out there, but who would have thought it was floating over the skies of Newton-le-Willows?

This strange object was spotted hurtling through the night skies by several local residents.

It's sudden appearance over homes on Wymbrel Avenue at around 9pm on Wednesday left many baffled.

Stuart Welsby was he returning from a shopping trip with wife Emma and their young son when he spotted a 'glowing orange blob' floating across the Newton skyline and took these pictures on his mobile phone.

Amazingly, he spotted the same strange glowing light at around the same time the following night.

He said: "We just saw this thing in the sky and both said 'what an earth is that'.

"It was right above us but was moving at the normal speed of an airplaine but it had no aviation lights and when I turned my engine off there was absolutely no noise coming from it.

"I would describe it as like a bright orange glow. You could by the way it was moving that it wasn't a shooting star or a meteor.

"I stopped the car and got out to take a better look and there were a few other people milling about who'd also noticed it. It was very odd.

"I took a picture on my mobile phone but we were only about a minute from our house so we dashed home to get my digital camera.

"When we got back it was still there but by the time I had got the digital cameras it had disappeared, which was also very strange because it was a clear night with not much cloud.

Stuart, a 31-year-old mobile paint sprayer, says he has no firm beliefs on the existence of UFOs before his unusual encounter on Wednesday night.

He joked: "We have a 16-month-old boy and had just been shopping, so we'd certainly not had one too many! In fact, we were rushing to get home because it was past our son's bedtime but this thing just stopped us in our tracks.

"Afterwards my wife said that this thing had really got to me because I was on the internet checking web forums to see if anyone else spotted it.

"There were quite a few people about so other's spotted it as well, I'd really like to know what other saw and what they think was behind it."

Big Cat Reported Again in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire

There have been two more sightings of a big cat in the Stonehaven area.

Marketing and PR consultant Elma McMenemy, who lives at Barras, had a close encounter with the beast, which she described as similar to a panther, on Cheyne Hill while out walking her dogs on Tuesday morning.

Mrs McMenemy's suspicions were first aroused when her dogs, both deerhounds, began scratching at a stone wall.

She told the Leader: "They were terribly attracted to the wall. One of my dogs jumped over it. I looked over to see what was happening and the cat stood up. It was right there, about three or four feet away from me."

Mrs McMenemy (56), said the cat was "completely black, with a shiny, smooth coat" and the same height as one of her deerhounds - about 28 inches tall.

"The dogs appeared to have interrupted its breakfast," she continued. "It had been gnawing at what looked like a deer's leg. My dogs gave chase, and it ran. It tried to take its meal with it, but dropped it a few seconds later".

She said: "I got such a fright, I was so shaken up. I think it's a good idea for other dog walkers to be warned. My dogs are quite big so thankfully it ran away."
She added she would think twice about taking her dogs to Cheyne Hill – at least for a few days.

This remarkable sighting comes just days after the Leader was told of another reported sighting in a garden in the harbour area of Stonehaven.

Carol McCaskie, who lives in the Old Town, says that she saw a big cat two months ago.

Her partner, Chris Stephen, said: "We weren't going to mention it until we saw in last week's Leader that there had been a sighting at Crawton. We thought people wouldn't believe us."

Miss McCaskie said: "It was about half four in the morning. Our dog Moya started barking, which is very unusual for her in the middle of the night. I let her and our cat out, but the pair of them both froze on the front steps. That's when I saw the big cat at the end of the garden."

She said it was smooth haired, and a "solid, dark colour".

Miss McCaskie continued: "It just turned round slowly and looked at me, then at our cat and the dog, before it just slowly strolled away."

"It was about the same size as our cocker spaniel, but it was definitely not a dog. It was a big cat." she insists.

Carol and Chris became even more suspicious when, three weeks ago, their dog started barking at half past four in the morning once again. This time, they found a large dead rabbit on the steps in front of their home.

In a further mystery, four or five domestic cats disappeared from the area around that time.

Miss McCaskie reported the rabbit carcass to the vet, and was referred to David McKinnon, the Wildlife Police Officer for Grampian, who came and removed the animal.

Mr McKinnon told the Leader that he is still awaiting test results to reveal what killed the rabbit, adding: "We have had lots of sightings of big cats in the Grampian area over the years. Many of them have been reported by credible people, including doctors and police officers. So yes, we do get big cat sightings in Grampian. But the jury's still out on whether there are indeed big cats in Britain."
